Not, But About

Not, But About

Not my life,
but about my life,
my memoir can't possibly
contain all that I've lived,
but it might easier contain
what I've learned.
A mature perspective
on life lived forward
but now regarded backward,
thoughts gliding swiftly over
the surface of recollection,
swifter than life itself
has now gone by,
while slower thoughts
plumb the depths
to understand
the wreckage among the treasures,
perhaps to benefit my children
now living forward
but quite on their own,
advice unasked
un-needed.
A volume far too slender
to contain a life.
But must it be so slim
to contain
what I have learned?

That was great! You might be able to set it to music...just a thought.
Thank you very much for reading and for your appreciation. :flowers:
And for your suggestion of music. Something to think about, since it looks like I'll be doing poetry more than stories for a while.
Somehow, Nature Boy comes to mind a little.
Thanks
And have a good day

Liked your poem Peder, something I can relate to or to which I can relate if I want to say it properly. :whistling:

Thank you, Canuck, for your nice reply. Yes, retrospection is sobering, even if educational. :innocent:
Thanks for your comment
Cheers!

Thank you, Lovecraftian, very much. Somehow the thoughts for this one 'clicked' together better than others I have written and it felt better when I was done. Very glad you liked it.
Cheers

Yea, the ones that 'click' are always so much better than the ones we have to brood over and search for, yea?

Yes, some definitely come easier than others. In this case, it is probably also helped by 'write what you know,' since it pretty much sums up my actual strategy and feelings about the memoir that I have begun writing -- after a very long and thoughtful agony.
