Nuclear fallout-don't know the title

Read a book about a typical American family surviving a nuclear exchange with the Soviets. If I remember right, they were a distance from the explosions, and only had to contend with the fallout. Any suggestions?

Was it Alas, Babylon by Pat Frank? I don't think that one focuses on just one family though.

There were several made for tv films like that. Besides the one mentioned above, there were Testament and the BBC's Threads.

Hope these help!
:)

Yep, it was The Day After. Thanks!. I asked this question because I rented Testament last night and the wife and I watched it. It came in a slick packaged DVD and we argued for about ten minutes as to whether or not it was a new release. After seeing the coffee table sized answering machine, I gave in.
