That is the craziest thing I've ever heard of! Maybe they're going to start having doggie police and will interview the dogs about how often they get walked! Haha!

i think there should be a doggie police really. i feel that if there were stricter laws around buying pets, then we would see less and less abuse of animals and fewer dog attacks. i really feel that when agressive breeds attack or kill someone, it is the owners fault. it is the responsibility of the owners to educate themselves about the breed, get training and then ensure that the dog is well looked after. if i were tied to a tree in the yard for hours and hours at a time i would go mad too.
but i realize this would take serious money and man power.

do you think aggressive breeds should be banned?

How the hell are they going to inforce this?[/QUOTE]

Implanting a subcutaneous tacograph. The tacographs will be read by a handheld scanner carried by police and also available at vet surgeries.

"do you think aggressive breeds should be banned?"

Who gets to decide what the criteria is for defining "agressive"?

There are no aggressive breeds, only aggressive dogs that were made that way by their owners.

I know some sweet, gentle dobermans and pit bulls and some really awful labradors.

A family near me had an "aggressive dog", a German Shepherd they were mandated to have put down for biting. They couldn't figure out why it was so mean. They kept it chained on a heavy chain for its entire life in the unheated garage on a cement floor while they went to work and left it there all alone. Duh. I think that would make any animal aggressive.

we have a rottweiler that my hubby invested loads of time in with training and excercise. we never chain her and she is very mild mannered, but even still she is NEVER left alone with kids. she is a dog. and dogs can get pissed.
i literally cringe when i see some young "punk" (ooh god i am my mother) with a pit bull puppy. that is why i think it should be so much more difficult for anyone to get any kind of dog. more people get bit by toy poodles than big breeds i would bet.

I can't see how they are going to enforce this  Even our two rarely get three walks a day, 2 x 1hr walks are more than enough.

It depends, in England we already have four banned breeds. Personally I will go out my way to avoid staffy's, mainly due to the type of owner that has them  . Who would determine what breeds were dangerous though? I love Rottweilers and don't mind Dobes (too slim for my liking) but several people don't. I wouldn't leave our two alone with children either, I know they wouldn't harm them but due to their physical size they could hurt them unintentionally and I would never put them in that situation.

As a dog lover I'm all for long walks, but isn't it going to be a bit hard on goldfish? :D

People should take care of thier pets and I'm all for banning tail-docking and dying dogs stupid colours to match their owner's hair fads.. pink poodles!!! Yuk!
True. *aggressive* is not always large dogs either. Our neighbour has a Yorkshire
Terrier, (small breed) that attacks anything that passes its gate. It is allowed to run loose. The thing is, if that Yorkshire attacked a larger dog and that dog retaliated, it would be the larger *aggressive* dog that would appear to be at fault and liable to be put down.

On several occasions that Yorkie tried to bite the hind legs of my labradors while they were on their leads. They were both good natured, quiet dogs but as already mentioned, even a good dog can be pushed too far.
