Passchendaele.A love story during a time of war.I was skeptical when I picked this one up,wasn't interested in the love story part, but I read it this past weekend and it is a powerful read. The war and the harsh realities of it made me forget the mushy stuff.

"This book was inspired by the First World War experiences of Paul Gross's grandfather.
Michael Joseph Dunne served in the 10th Battalion Canadian Expeditionary Force."

"All elements of the British Military machine were thrown into the effort. Finally the high command turned to their elite corps-the Canadian Expeditionary Force. On the 6th of Nov,Canadian soldiers took the town of Passchendale,on the 10th they reached Hill 52,bringing victory to the allies.
It was an extraordinary achievement for a young nation, only fifty years after Confederation, with the population of less than 8 million.Canada sent more than 600,000 men to the Western front and their sacrifice shaped what it meant to be Canadian..."

Lenny,I have been reading Pat Barker's Regeneration Trilogy, one of the prominent characters in the books is Siegfried Sassoon and it says that he was at Paschendale, and having the book I read it on Sunday. It put me on a search mode about him and his anti war poetry and also on the work Paul Gross has been doing to bring awareness to Canadian heroes.I can't stop.:whistling:

Thanks for the video,I really enjoyed it.
