Personal experience as an influence in writing

So how much do you allow your personal life experiences influence your writing? How involved do you let that get when writing a novel or short story?

Personal experience is almost always somehow correlated with the story of a book. As for me, I've written a few stories completely based off of events that have happened to me in the past.
