Pet Question

Has anyone here ever taken a dog with them on vacation? I'm wondering about dogs in hotel rooms. Do the maids usually come in if the dog is in it's crate? Do the pet rooms usually smell like animal?

I'm going away for almost two weeks and my pet-sitter has fallen through. I'm giving some serious consideration to taking my dog with me.

My wife has taken our dog once with her on her trip by train to her parents in Ukraine. She said that would be never repeated.
(By the way, our dog is a toy terrier - half the size of our last cat). Too much fuss.

Well we take our two away all the time, though mainly camping. Several people I know take large breed dogs with them and have no problem in hotels - they just arrange with the maids when they will be out so they can come in and clean (as the dogs are rarely crated). We're going away for a couple of days soon and our two will be coming with us and won't be crated.

I'm afraid this is the direction I'm going to have to take. Mother won't watch dog, brother will forget to feed dog.

The thing that sucks is that it's a LOOOONG drive from Massachusetts to Georgia. The second leg will be 14 hours with 4 people (who don't all get along all the time) in a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Throwing a poorly behaved small dog into the mix should be just dandy.

Nightmare. I would avoid it at all costs. Our dog whines when she's in the car, very quietly, but loud enough to make you want to stop the car and throw her out. Which is probably what she'd aiming for thinking about it!

I know boarding kennels can be expensive, but we sometimes left ours there. The dog may be happier there than in a cramped car for hours and hours, and is it really going to be a holiday for you if you're worrying about your dog?
