Picking the perfect book for the perfect person

I want to give my dad an inspirational book about how I feel. He's not a religous man and he doesn't believe in the spiritual stuff either. I on the other hand love all of the above and want to some how give him a piece of this knowledge in a way that he'll understand and enjoy. After my parents divorce started he and I haven't gotten along well. I want the book to be about redirecting yourself on the right path and regenerating your positive energies. Basically he needs to be revitalized and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. He needs to find out who he really is in order to be able to accomplish his needs instead of his wants.

Mandy,
That's a tall order to convey something so personal to another person and to find a book that does it just right. However, I might suggest The Power of Positiive Thinking by the Rev. Norman Vincent Peale. He was a (non-denominational?) Protestant minister whose down-to-earth message was quite popular in it's day. I assume you'll look at it first to see if it speaks to you before offering it to your father.
A second book that comes to mind is How to Stop Worrying and Start Living by Dale Carnegie, who likewise had quite a following in his day and whose teachings are still affecting the lives of people. It is a non-religious book and the title says it all.
You are doing a worthy thing,
Good luck,
Peder

Peder, those are 2 excellent recommendations.

Don't Sweat the Small Stuff by Richard Carlson is a good one. So is anything by Deepak Chopra and Lama Surya Das.

I found the book, Notes To Myself by Hugh Prather to be inspirational. It's not religious or spriritual, though.

What about giving him a book you really love, or one that has special meaning for the two of you - perhaps one he read to you as a child. You could write a message in the front of it to explain what the gift means and how much you care about him. If you want to express that emotion the book doesn't have to do it for you. This way he can read the book for pleasure, enjoy the story, and remember that you wanted to share it with him.
