Please, I need help remember the title of a book!

Ok, here is the deal. When I was in 8th grade I read a book for my English class, and for the life of me, I cannot remember the name.

The book was about an Indian boy who was friends with a bear I believe. He called him "Bear Brother." That will ring a bell if anyone has read this book.

The boy gets captured by whites, and is placed in a school so that he can learn to be a proper white kid.

Also in the book, I believe this boy takes part in a rodeo.

... sorry I only remember bits and pieces of this book and I need help remembering the name.

Take a look at "When the Legends Die" by Hal Borland. I haven't read it but I skimmed through the first bit of it when I was looking for my own unsolved book. It's about an orphan indian boy, he has a bear he refers to as his brother, and when I stopped he and the bear were going to a local town, some townsfolk had convinced him to try living there I think. Didn't go far enough to know anything about a rodeo.
