If you receive an email from "ebay", please do not respond to it or click on the "link" in the email. It is probably an attempt to obtain your personal information. I will post more info on the subject tomorrow when I have more time. Ebay has asked authorities to investigate an attempt made today by impostors trying to get my personal information.

Hi muggle! I've had loads of these. They've tried the following: my account has been breached; someone has made a complaint about me and if I don't click on the link legal proceedings will ensue; I need to re-verify my details to ensure no disruption to my account... The list goes on. They get forwarded to eBay or Paypal and ignored.

Yesterday I received an email that looked suspicious. It was titled:
CUSTSERVICE_ID_2 EBAY Secure Verification Process

I forwarded the email to Ebay and they did respond to me stating that the email was not from ebay and that it was an attempt by someone to obtain my personal information. Ebay notified me that they have notified the appropriate authorities of the incident.

Yeah, eBay tend to send a stock answer saying that. How much effort they do actually put into stopping these people, I don't know.

The last "spoof" one I got (only yesterday!) actually looked quite professional, complete with eBay logo and links to areas eBay has. However, it was let down by the usual spelling mistakes!

I just received a great offer via e-mail. Turns out that a deposed African dictator's son is going to pay me millions if I send him $20,000 from my personal account. I've already sent the money, I can't wait for the riches.:D

Wow, you are really lucky. If you get many, many, millions in return would you like to sponsor our race team. The cost, for a friend like you, will only be around $975,000 per year.:)

Another "first" I received in the last few days was a chain e-mail. It consisted of a crappy poem and the promise that if I forwarded it to seven people, I would receive a miracle. Why, if I'd only known earlier that forwarding e-mails enabled miracles to happen, I'd have been forwarding them like mad.
