Question about lesbianism in "chick literature"

Hi everyone

First of all, apologies if I've offended anyone by using the term "chick literature" certainly none intended. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there are any examples of lesbian themes with central characters in this genre (e.g. books by Helen Fielding, Marian Keyes, Maeve Binchy etc.) This is research that I'm doing for an article I am considering writing. Thanks in anticipation. :)

I can't say I've read really extensively in this genre, but I've read some and can't think of many lesbians at all. The last one I read (Slightly Settled, Red Dress Ink, Harlequin's chick lit line) had a lesbian character that appeared in one scene, mostly to get a good one-liner in. Mostly there's the token gay male friend.

Does Fried Green Tomatoes count as chick lit? That's the only strong lesbian theme I can think of.

Did anyone else see Tipping the Velvet? (there's a book too) Heh. Amused us for weeks on end.

Tipping the Velvet sounds fascinating (from the Amazon description). Not that it's chick lit, but there was a lesbian substory in Possession, by A.S. Byatt.

Not sure whether this one fits your request: Aimee& Jaguar.

Just watched this moive. REally good!!!never knew two women can love that deeply. And wow, Felice was such a threatening beauty when she was having the cigarette in her fingers!! I would love her as well if...

Jeanette Wintersons "Oranges are not the only fruit" springs to mind - made into a BBc drama it highlighted the Lesbian theme yet the book dealt more with religious fundamentalism.
