Ive always been into music etc...and have many rare records and rare instruments so i know how to pick them out. And as long as Ive been reading Ive never thought about rare or original books really just always got repress, like my Walden, war and peace, Anna Karenina, etc...But now i want the real ones

So how do you tell the originals from represses? And are there anyway to get cheaper originals?

like how gemm.com has tons of original music but many times you can find them cheaper, or should i just check amazon/ebay?

Have you checked Craig's List? You may find some on there. Also look for estate sales/auctions. Many times people inherit things that they have no interest in keeping and will sell them at reasonable prices. One man's trash is another man's treasure.

I go to flea markets. They get boxes and boxes from estate sales and sell them for nothing.

By "real" do you mean First Editions?

Aside from the already mentioned flea markets and estate and yard sales, I would check out antique malls. Sometimes they will have some good stuff and not realize what they have but most times they'll have Glen Campbell's biography for cover price.

Of course, there's always eBay and used book search engines.
