Reader & Now An Author

This site looks to be just the right place for a reader and new author. I am especially interested in hearing what others say about newly published works. There are just too many to sift through.

My interest is varied, with a great love of baseball, english literature, and history. I tend to combine them all when writing - it makes writing easier.

Just finished a great biography about Meriwether Lewis. Reading about that adventure makes the current political squabbles (sometimes called "debates") look and sound very silly.

Best regards to all readers,
Gerald Barnes

Hi Gerald,

Welcome to Book & Reader. I am about to become a published author later this year (not self-published). I have found the whole process to be a great adventure (getting published that is) and have found that it tests your patience too. I write adventure gamebooks for tweens (something a little different from the norm). How did you find the whole publication process?

publication

Jasan,

Good luck. Publishing for me was a breeze because I had the resources to complete every production detail except the actual printing of the books. It was made possible by "print-on-demand." The publisher I use is Booksurge, and Amazon.com company. They have been great.

I did not pursue publishers, rather I chose to self-publish for three reasons: first, trying to get a publisher interested is a waste of time. Second, I have sufficient marketing skills to promote my book. Third, I wanted to retain equity ownership in my work.

So far, it has worked.
