Hi. Jeff L here. I am recently retired and enjoying reading. I just finished Water for Elephants. Although it was highly recommended I found it disappointing. During the next few days I will get my thoughts together and explain. I am happy to be aboard!
I was "psyched" because two good friends described it as "magnificent" reading. Well, I must admit that I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. So, here's why I was disappointed.
Although the "trip" of reading Water for Elephants was interesting, I expected a MUCH more interesting and developed ending. My goodness, the whole story was wrapped up in only a few pages (why the hurry?), and it was so simplistic and not well-developed at all. My mind wanderd during my reading about how the story might end and MY endings were so much more interesting than the actual ending. Oh, well. There was also one incident that confused me (I really should re-read it). It was during a sexual encounter. I interpreted that perhaps "he" touched a scar or something on "her" that gave him some kind of understanding about "her" that he had not previously had. (I am sorry for being so vague. I will find the pages in the book and quote from the passage.) I hope to hear from you again. Perhaps we could email each other: jacquesgeb@aol.com
All the best, Jeff L
