Reincarnation themed romance (no title/author known!)

Hi all

Need help identifying a book if poss - a colleague of mine was telling me about it at work and saying how much she regrets not being able to remember the author or title (she read it years and years ago) and I thought it might be nice to try and identify it and get her a copy as a present.

Basically the story was about a "starcrossed" couple who never quite get together, but the book starts from pre-medieval times and moves gradually into modern times through several reincarnations - i.e covering their life stories in each new life, chronicling how they come together etc (example; in one section, she's a high class type woman and he's a Knight).

Eventually they get it together apparently. Unfortunately I know nothing more of it than that...

It might be the single most obscure reference to a book ever, in which case I apologise, but I'm hoping it's something perhaps well known, and maybe someone will go "oooh I have that on my shelf!"

Remembrance by Jude Deveraux is the first one that comes to mind. Reincarnation is the MAJOR plot element in the story. Also, Bertrice Small's A Moment In Time deals specifically with reincarnation.

Probably not the book you're looking for, but Green Darkness by Anya Seton is a classic time travel romance. I loved it on first read, back in my 20's.
