Rent vs rent the movie?

Hey did anyone else see the new trailer for rent the movie? Personally i think it looks poorly made, and the acting and vocals are definately not my cup of tea. But on the other hand they are going up against one of the finest musicals ever to graze broadway. Im a huge fan of the original recordings cd of rent and its always being played a couple time a month in my household. I guess ill have to reserve judgement till the film is released. If anyone disagrees or wants add something to my statemen feel free to. Thanks! Ta for now!

Probably like the guy that requested information on a book and I went to a lot of trouble doing some research and posted the results. The guy, if he used the info, never came back to acknowledge it or to say thanks.

I'm not sure what the intent of the original poster was, but I'm going to weigh in on RENT. I went to see the movie with a friend last night who has seen the broadway musical twice. I, sadly, have not seen it even once. We both loved it. The music can't be that far off from the original cast recordings as all but two of the major characters were played by the original broadway actors. The music was fantastic, and the background was amazing. The scenes on the appartment balconies were by far my favorite. Somehow, the director managed to give it a stagelike feel while still having the background look realistic. RENT certainly isn't for the close minded as it focuses on a group of young New Yorkers in gay, lesbian and interracial relationships dealing with poverty and AIDS in the end of the 1980's. I'd suggest this movie to anyone who enjoys musicals and has an open enough mind to deal with the subject matter.

I enjoyed the musical and thought that the advertising was horrible & misleading (for those who have no idea about what it is about)... It looks like singing and laughing and love and Christmas. la la la la fun!!!!! When really, it has a lot to do with AIDS and homelessness, etc.

Rosario Dawson, in interviews, seems like she has no idea what the movie is about too.

But I'm sure the movie is good, I'm only talking about the preview/advertisements.

Actually, she was the one bad bit in the movie. I agree that the trailers are very misleading. The friend I went to whispered to me at the begining of the movie "you know this is about homosexuality and stuff, right?" I told her that of course I knew what it was about. She responded that a number of people from her church had gone to see it and had been upset by the subject matter. I thought everyone out there knew what RENT was about, but I was wrong and the movie trailers certainly don't help.

Hey, you can't go too wrong when you've got the original Broadway cast. Except Rosario. I thought she was okay, but they could have found someone better.

I thought Rosario did a great job. You have to remember she hasn't been living with the material for 10 years like almost everyone else.

I think they did the best possible job they could to bring it to life on the screen.

I get to meet Anthony Rapp on Saturday. I'm very excited!

I totally agree. I think she is the one thing that dragged the movie down. I can't remember which song it was, but during one of hers I kept thinking "please stop singing, song please be over". There are worse choices out there, but there are certainly better as well.
