Roald Dahl: My Uncle Oswald

Was wondering if anyone else read this book? It's not under his repertoire of children's book, as it is hilarious and has a decidedly naughty and adult premise.

It's about the narrator's Uncle Oswald, who together with a pretty chick and a scientist collaborated to collect sperm from famous people in order to sell to prospective clients who want to have progeny from renowned sources, so to speak. They way they went about 'harvesting' is so funny. The whole book was funny.

I read it a long time ago, and since I just picked up on The Complete Adventures of Charlie and Willy Wonka I just remembered this. If you haven't read it I completely recommend it.

Anyone?

My Uncle Oswald's amusing advantures

This was one of the most amazing books that I’ve ever read. As a Dahl fan, I always enjoyed reading both his books for children and stories for adults. After reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, short stories and food recipes, My Uncle Oswald doubled my addiction of Dahl’s literature. He has a kind of technique that you immediately get involved in his world at the very beginning of the story. My Uncle Oswald comes to the scene with his extraordinary adventures. Dahl’s fluent language, delicious details and sense of humor make the book like a box of Wonka chocolate. While reading, you feel the total pleasure of reading and after finishing it, the taste of amazing story, absurdness and amusing flow remains at your tongue for a very long time.

Yay! Cheers for rescuing this thread from wallowing in obscurity! :D

Yeah, it is brilliant. But this book is so unlike the other Dahl works I've read, much more adult, but his cheeky humour is still out in full force.

Glad to have found another reader who loves Oswald!

As a story addict when I first read short stories from Roald Dahl, I suddenly found out that he had a kind of absorbing flow in the stories with full of interesting details. His "cheeky" humor doesn't bother me so much, since i like the way writers use this kind of humor in their works such as Milan Kundera.

Maybe it is absurd to read children's books at this age, but i love imaginary worlds with full of absurd characters. Dahl is one of those who actually reflect these worlds very well.

Direstraits, i suggest you to read Roald Dahl's Revolting Recipes. It contains the food recipes that are mentioned in his children books.

Try them, of course they are absurd but fun to cook.

Uncle Oswald and the Leper

Any of you folks read the story of Uncle Oswald and the leper lass when his rolls royce broke down in the desert?

Really? I hadn't known that... thanks! In those stories, does he appear as still involved in his caper, or after My Uncle Oswald ended?

I think i have read all of Roald Dahls books, bith his childrens books and the more adult books. If you like his style and humour you will love all his books.

I cant remember the name of the book, but he also rewrote a series of classic fairytales Roald Dahl style. They are pretty violent but very funny. In his version of Little red riding hood the little girl packs a big gun and is out to deal justice to a certain wolf.

I read My Uncle Oswald a couple of months ago, it was hilarious, but yet not the kind of book that I remember too well afterwards. If it had been a movie, it would have been one of the good comedies that make you laugh a lot, but which do don't see again. Hm, I have been comparing books to music and movies a lot lately. Perhaps I should compare them with socks? Surely that must be possible in some way.

Well, I'm reading Switch Bitch right now and I'm not done with the Sinai Desert story yet. But so far the sperm-collecting hasn't been mentioned. This is the narrarator's first attempt to publish Uncle Oswald's diaries.

Also in my book the titles of the Sinai Desert story is called The Visitor.
