sadistic scifi crap

I could not even finish this Chung Kuo book, which is the first of 7 in series. For one thing, I cannot find most of the other ones so what is the point. But also it is very sadistic and sicko. I am not overly sensitive to violence. I was a NY prison guard so how could I be? But still I do not like stories which go on about sadistic murders and tortures, especially against children and women, as this book does. There does not seem to be a reason for it except maybe the guy who wrote this is psycho and gets off on depraved crap. These books are all very long and not really worth the effort of reading like 7,000 pages of weirdo scifi crap.

I recall reading a couple of sci-fi books over the years that have had some rather horrid scenes of torture and suchlike and was kind of shocked myself the way they turned out... sorry you couldn't enjoy those books Chiangmai!

Now - I can recommend some Iain M Banks or Alastair Reynolds that should definitely hold your attention!

Yes this is the same book I praised before. However that was before I got to the sadistic parts. If not for that, I think they would be good books, this is why I do not understand what was the point of puting this crazy stuff in. Iwas not going to say this but perhaps it would explain situation more. I have personal reasons for objecting to this book and is one of main reasons is I am as I said in profile retired investigator, but fact is I still work in volunteer basis to combat trafficking of women and children which occurs in Thailand and southeast Asia, as I am sure you know. I also teach self-defense to women and also hilltribe people who are often victimized. So when I read about sadistic violence against women and children it affects me strongly as I see too much of this in real life and therefore object to it in fictional stories more than most people. There is a famous author of detective novels named Andrew Vachss who also works in this field and has done work in Thailand. He wrote series of books about character named Burke which are among my favorite novels. Although these also have sadistic violence, it is done to educate people that these things happpen in real life. Also I like them because Burke always makes the perpetrators pay for their crimes.
