Just read this and loved it.
The story takes place in a rural Greek village, and explores two radically different perspectives - those of Juliet, an English ex-pat who has bought a house in the village, and Aaman, a Pakistani illegal immigrant who has come to Greece looking for work and a better future.
Juliet hires Aaman to clear her garden, and initially their relationship is a business one.
They soon discover that their pasts have common experiences, and that they are not as different as they first imagined.
A complex relationship develops, and the book explores this relationship in a compassionate and at times humorous way.
The issues that are dealt with are serious ones, but the author keeps the tone fairly light, and does not get bogged down or morbid. Essentially this is a book that explores love, struggle and the human condition.
It made me cry in some parts, and I laughed out loud in others. Highly recommended, and I'm looking forward to the next in the series.
