Needle by Hal Clement.
Larry Niven's Gil Hamilton books such as The Patchwork Girl and The Long ARM of Gil Hamilton.
You might want to consider Asimov's Black Widower's stories as well.
Two other books, while not being strictly science-fiction mysteries, certainly have elements of both, are Michael Marshall Smith's Fast Forward and Spares.
I have read and enjoyed all of the above.
