Searching books with intense atmosphere

I'm searching two types of books.

Type first is with intense emotions, touchy story but earthbounded, for example games like heavy rain, fahrenheit, the walking dead suit to this type. I don't bound to any genre, so it can be horror, thriller, fantasy, whatever.

The second one covers books with psychedelic/ mystical art. Emotions and sensations can't be described with human words, the atmosphere is the most important thing. I think, that you will have more examples for this type than the first one. The art that I know suits to this type: games - Tension (The Void), LSD - dream simulator, Pathologic, Sanitarium, Silent hill, Cryo games (Faust, Atlantis). Music: Nurse With Wound, The Residents, Sphongle ambient and trance goups like Era, Enigma, Schiller etc. Movies: Lucky Sky Diamond, Imprint, Salad Fingers serie, Pi

Negative psychedelic (it's good, but by negative I mean dark :)):

Positive psychedelic:

So, if you know any book that suits type 1 or 2 it would be pleasure if you typed it here.

Negative Psychedelic - The Naked Lunch by William Burroughs springs to mind.
Positive Psychedelic - Weaveworld by Clive Barker... it's a mixture of both really but it does evoke positive psychedelic for me anyway.

i am confused by your types, it's early, i've not finished my first coffee yet.... but Violin by Anne Rice comes to mind regardless.. intense was the word for me when i read it..

Triana, a 20th-century woman is haunted and inspired by Stefan, a 19th-century ghost. A tale of violence and music set in 19th-century Vienna and ending in modern-day Rio, and of the shifting power struggle between Triana and Stefan, the genius in thrall to the muse and the muse to the genius.
