All entries are in for Smirky's Horror Short Story Contest, previously posted here: Short Story Contest. Although I will be choosing the first place winner, you on this forum are to decide the second place winner. Please read each story before casting your vote. Happy reading!

This contest is finally over!

And the first place winner is (imaginary drum roll)... "The Very Last Circle of Hell", by Gem, which happened to be my pick before the poll results.

Which means the second place winner, by poll, is (okay, so there is no snare drum)... not going to be "Avoiding the Doctor: Reason Number 26", by novella (gasp!), as she has asked to drop out of the contest for publicity reasons. So... I flipped a coin (heads signifying "Folly" by direstraits, and tails representing "The Sacrifice", by Occam's Razor) and it came up tails.

Congratulations to Gem and Occam's Razor! I'll be PMing you later in the day. And novella, if you really want a copy... I'll send you one, just PM me and we'll work something out (maybe I can send it to one of your five assistants).

no way! I actually won something? (ha that'll show my old p.e. teacher who said i would amount to nothing :p )

Well done Gem, I voted for you (I believe £50 was the agreed amount?) ;)

I liked both your story and your writing style. Have you been writing long?

Hi Halo,

thanks for the vote, the cough cough 'package' is on its way to you. :D

I'm glad you liked the story. I only started writing recently although i've always had stories and ideas buzzing around my head. Actually come to think of it i used to write when i was quite young but then the whole teenage years kicked in and i put it on the backburner. What about yourself, do you write?

Congrats Gem... well done. :)

The quality of the contestants were very good - I'm proud and happy to be part of this group.

Thanks to the 2 people who voted for me! :)

Sometimes. I do have one finished and three unfinished young adult novels languishing in the cupboard which will probably never see the light of day. I keep meaning to go back to them but never seem to find the time.

thanks Direstraits, and your right everyones work was good, and its great that people took the time out to read our stuff and vote, so thanks everyone.

Halo, make the time; after all you've already put so much thought and work into them that you may as well put in a bit more - and save them from languishing all alone in that cupboard. It'd be great if you ever decided to showcase a sample here - i for one would love to read it.

Thanks to all of you who participated, and for those who didn't, but took the time to read these fine stories. Palindrome Hannah is in the mail and on its way to the two winners.

Should I continue with these contests (they won't all be horror based)?
