Storm Constantine

Anyone out there read Storm Constantine? Specifically the Wraeththu trilogy? Is she any good?

It does look deliciously dark and mysterious, which really makes me lick my lips.

Yeah, I have read a couple of her novels. If you like same sex sex and/or vampires then you will love it. No. Really. She seems to have an obsession for those things in pretty much all her books ( from what I have read ) and they certainly were a theme in the two books that I read.

I liked her writing style very much. It's very rich and evocative. I liked the world that she built in one of the books. One book I quite enjoyed and the other I found quite boring.

Not sure if to recommend her or not :)

Same sex sex is not something I'd cuddle up and go to sleep with, but it doesn't spoil the fun too much. I'm just keeping a lookout for something different. How does she compare with say, China Mieville?

Which of hers did you read?

Ah, let me look!

BACK :D

I read Burring the Shadow and Sign for the sacred.

I really liked Burying the Shadow. It was a twist on the vampire tale. I liked the language of the novel and the world she built. There were lots of great tiny details that made the world a real place for me. The writing was rich and lyrical. The plot itself was not very good and very slow. However, the writing and the world she created was interesting enough for it not to matter to me.

Sign for the Sacred: Again, good writing. However the world didn't gel for me and the plot totally bored me. I didn't like it, and I gave up on this one.

I would say the only think that China Melville and Storm Constantine have in common is that both books are lyrical and dark. I would say that China's books are much DARKER. I wouldn't say that Strom Constantine's books are particularly dark, but more "gothic" if that makes sense to you? :)

Oh yeah. I don't really consider China dark (hey, that sounds funny!), so Storm should be alright.

Thanks a million Wabbit!

You're welcome! :)

Actually, I suggest you could read Burying the Shadow first. If you like vampires then give it a try. It will be a good idea of her writing style before you take the leap into her trilogy.

Good suggestion.

I came damn close to buying it today, but fighting the urge with inhuman strength of will, I tore myself away from the bookshelves to consult first with forum mates.

Ah, I deserve a reward.

Spend all that energy tearing myself away and promptly come back the next day, salivating all over the place. Just not the Storm Constantine shelf.

Good plan. I'm coming up with excuses for my wife already as to why I'll back with more books tomorrow.

I've not read this series yet, though I hope to get my hands on it at some point. Just got so many other authors books I want to get too :)
I have read Sea Dragon Heir, which I quite enjoyed and would like to get the rest of the books in that series :)
