SUPPLEMENTARY POLL!! Themed Reads Part II

Please read this thread first!

Time to talk about some ideas for themes. Think one for Summer and Fall this year and ones for Winter and Spring next year. If your idea relates to a specific month/season be sure to mention that. Feel free to second another member's ideas (or sample ideas) or come up with some creative ideas of your own. I'll close this thread when it seems to stagnate, or when we've got an obscene number of suggestions. Then...we'll vote...

The best of the sample themes I came across are:
And the "Bookie" goes to... (critically acclaimed or award winning books)
Banned Books
Beach Reads (easy books we would normally overlook, but are perfect for the beach/poolside; could also be books about life along/on the water)
Caribbean Authors (this is just one example of many ethnic or culturally based themes)
Classics
Non-Fiction
Sleep with the Lights On (October, scary books)
Tasty (For the most part, books involving food, chefs, restaurants. some were just books with food on the cover or a good recipe within the story)
This Guy is Ancient (most suggestions were from before the Renaissance, although one was a book about two sisters who lived to be more than 100 years old)

Beach Reads - for the summer months. I definitely agree with this category. A good theme for some reading that does not have to be serious and there is some enjoyable reading in the category.

Summer: Caribbean authors
Autumn: Horror, something scary
Winter: Classics, something to do with Christmas or maybe something just to brighten the dull and winter months, like Stewart's suggestion of short stories
Spring: I like both the Award Winners category and the Banned Books category, so not sure, and also Spring is when a few chefs bring out new books too

Is that what we're meant to suggest? Or actual book ideas?

You are right on. Just looking for suggestions/seconds on some themes right now. We'll worry about the books during the normal nominations for those months that are chosen to have a theme.

Well spring is kind of a fun, frisky time so maybe a romantic comedy? and in summer I always like mysteries for some reason.

I like this one. Maybe someone like Lawrence Block. He came out with a collection of his short stories from beginning to present. Enough Rope. Just an example, one I happen to already have..... . Amazon loves me enough already!

I was thinking at least for December that we could read Christmas-type themed books, ie A Christmas Carol.

Well, as far as that goes, Vladimir Nabokov......./uncover your ears now / has a lovely book of short stories, The Stories of Vladimir Nabokov, natch . Covers all of his short stories in crono order.

I like this idea, some of my favorite reads from last year were nonfiction.
