This book sounds like a fascinating read. Jacoby had a previous book titled Freethinkers about early American......freethinkers...that was quite interesting to read. A similiar book along the lines of what she has recently released was a history of anti-intellectualism, by Richard Hofstadter. At least, that's who I think it was by, it's been a few years.
Anyone up for this as a book of the month read on our own? I will definitely be purchasing it before March. It will go perfectly with my next read, The Closing of the American Mind by Allan Bloom.
