Texas is one of the largest buyers of textbooks in the USA and the Texas Board of Education has voted to revise the curriculum for social studies classes. Textbooks will be rewritten to replace "capitalism" with “U.S. free enterprise system" and the "slavery trade" to the "Atlantic Triangular Trade".

Texas Conservatives Win Curriculum Change
The conservative members maintain that they are trying to correct what they see as a liberal bias among the teachers who proposed the curriculum. To that end, they made dozens of minor changes aimed at calling into question, among other things, concepts like the separation of church and state and the secular nature of the American Revolution.

Some of the changes that will affect children statewide include teaching children that gains by racial and ethnic minorities were the result of the good graces of whites rather than the heroic struggles and sacrifices of participants in the civil rights movement; affirmative action and the Great Society were filled with failed and faulty policies and results; and the Confederacy is something to be celebrated and its heroes canonized.
