Who watched some of the show called "the swan", i did and i thought it was awful. these woman were obviously told they were ugly enough to go on tv, andugly enough to get a complete makeover. how could these husbands or friends or family of these woman say, yes you are ugly enogh, and should do this to your self. i mean to think that the husbands or boyfreinds of these women arent attracted to them enough is sad, how could you let someone you love do that. they must not have loved them. i could never go thru what those women did. i would be confused, and everytime id look in the mirror id know i changed myself not for me but for others. there was the other show, where they gave free plastic surgery to the few who where judged as "bad enough" to need it.
i think nobody needs it unless it literaly has to do with your health.
for instance, soem women need breast reductions, for health reasons. some people need surgery for there nose, cause they couldnt breathe well all there life. my teacher had here knees reconstructed cause she had rickets as a child, now she can walk much more easily.
i thought kids who wore braces only cause they liked how they looked was dumb. but ive even seen adults do it now. and these dumb diet pills, what a waste of money time and your health. you should never stop taking them or you gain back the weight. my husband tried so many before he met me, and in all lost 10 pounds. he ate crappy food didnt really excercise and took those diet pills , and in all those 3 years, he only lost 10 lbs! now he just eats better, and excercises, and its been a year, and hes lost 36 lbs! no diet pills. now i even lost 45 lbs, doing the same thing. ive kept it off for 2 years. why do we have to look like fake statues. why should we have the tan, fit body, beautiful face. in the long run we all will be drastically old and reduced. and does it really matter when your 80 years old, and you tell your friends ya know i used to be real ugly, then i got surgery and looked so good.
theyll laugh and think, now your old and ugly again!
i like being me, i like my originality, i am woman, a size 14 and im proud. even if i did feel like i was so ugly and i wished i didnt look like this, i still wouldnt go to surgery for answers. friends make u feel good not strangers.

Hmm, well there is nothing really that I would like to change. Maybe my face... I suffer spots sometimes, not like loads but like 1 or 2 and I would really like them to just go and give me clear skin! Lol. But I do actually try my best to get rid of them. They have gone down which I'm pleased about. I guess every teen suffer spots though... just part of growing up.

you know what i used to have acne a lil bit, but im in my 20s so, cant tell ya itll go away just yet! :p

I wish I didn't have tentacles growing out of my head, because they make me sad ... but I think it's just this mirror talkin'.

Using acne cream is one thing, plastic surgery for personal gratification is utterly disgusting to me. This is actually a topic I should not get into fully because I despise so strongly the reality of how popular it is becoming and do not want to start ranting.

I am 21 and an athlete that has went from a skinny little shit to a decent build by hard work. It makes me sick how many people come in and buy all of these super diet (ie. currently Atkins) or pills and think that this will result in a good end. I just don't understand what people are trying to accomplish by this. The first thing they do if they lose weight is go around and show off to everybody that they did as if this was an act of strength. Was this vanity or insecurity really the reason for doing this?

Seriously, the lack of people doing things for real reasons makes me sick. 1) Themselves, and 2) I think perhaps as big of a problem Doing things for people they care about and people that care about. Not these bf's of the swan, but people that really care about them.

I'm by no means saying people shouldn't do something, I have a distaste for lazy people that are proud of it just as much as the former. I just dont' understand the reasoning for spending thousands of dollars to superficially make yourself look better. I just can't stand the fact that even if they want this for themselves we have actually found a way to bypass them earning it.

:) i'm done now, i'll be around

I misread tentacles first. :D The first way I read it was more amusing.

Anyway that's a nasty side effect of living on a mountain from what i've heard Krom. :p

That show made me go off on rants that lasted hours. Obviously it's exploiting people with low self esteem, none of whom, in my opinion, wouldn't have achieved the same benefit from counseling, some dentistry, a personal trainer, and wardrobe and make-up advice, counseling being the most important part of the process. The show's producers should feel horribly guilty for taking women with incredibly low self esteem, telling them they need extensive surgeries and so forth to be worthwhile, fixing them up, and then making them compete in a beauty pageant. Basically telling them, even with incredibly extensive surgeries, we couldn't make you pretty enough to win. But the contestants are old enough to know better, so if that's what works for them, whatever. With all the makeup they cake on and the grotesquely puffed lips, they all look the same: pretty enough, but not striking or original in any way.

What enrages me is the message being sent to young girls watching the program. "Everything that is wrong in your life can be fixed by changing how you look and making you look generically pretty."

I hope that karma is true, so these people come back as cockroaches.

For the most part I'm content with how I look. I'm not going to lie though, most people(myself included) do wish certain things could be improved upon, like a flatter stomach, toned legs, lovely skin etc. I truly doubt thought, that I would ever take part of a serious attempt such as surgery or pills.
I'm in the habbit of getting my lifestyle to be healthier. I drink more water now, eat less junk food, and exercise more. I think that should be the case for normal people.
I said should and normal. There will be exceptions, for example health as was mentioned earlier, or perhaps an accident and you just want to look as you did before. Those cases are quite understandable and in their shoes I might be going the same way.
But I'm not. And I feel that trying to work and improve my health and looks via exercise and better habits is the best way to go considering that.
For normal people things like surgery and pills are, in my opinion, overdoing it. Rather than putting out money, why don't you put out more effort first and try getting out there to work it off. Get up early and go for a walk or a jog or go exercise with some friends. People claim they don't have time, well it seems if they can make time for a surgery and recovery then it shouldn't be too impossible to make some time for some new hobbies.
This is all just my opinion though, and as I said there will be exceptions. I just think that things like that should be a last resort and even then, only when needed for continued health or recovery from an accident.

it pisses me off too true@firstlight. im 21 yoears old too, and i lost that weight for health reasons, and cause i just felt like it. it made me happy cause i was trying to better myslfe. i eat betteer, excerscise and always try to do good for me. not others. its so ignorant of people. they will never get back there original look. i aslo thought now what if a guy had full reconstruction surgery, and a woman too. they met thinking thats how they both always looked, now they had a kid, and the kid ofcourse comes out lookin different then them both, grows up looking bad. what if that kd feels like he too should get it done cause he wants to look good for his mom and dad? it would mess him up. that show made me realize the kids are affected by this way more than anyone. for instance your baby wont think its you anymore if you change. it wont understand. your kids will be so confused and it will mess them up for themselves too.
we came in this world alone, and we come out alone too. i want to die with my own mind body and heart, not attachments or add ons. just me.

ohhh now i get it, lol ok. hey im married, so dont worry, your not even in my shoes yet!

Lol, I can rarely date a girl for more than a few months before I become bored and run away so I'm not worried about that part yet. I try giving everyone a chance, but of all the girls I've dated i've only cared about one. Stupid question considering you like Samurai, but seen the Seven Samurai? Just watched it last night again, soooo good!

oh no i havent seen it. so is it on dvd? is it good?

Oh God yes, it's a very old foreign film. Definately check it out! Most video stores if they have a foreign film section should have it. You'll love it!!! :D

The Swan sounded pretty odd, I'm glad I haven't had the chance to see any of it. I suppose England will come up with their own version of it soon enough though.

I remember looking at the 'before' pictures and basically saying what Ashlea said - they just needed a bit of fine tuning and a decent pair of hair straighteners. What a shame.
