Watched it last night and I have to say, it was definitely an experience.:eek: It was one of those movies that definitely kept your heat beating after the last credits. For those who may not know, it's about two sisters who live with their aunt and her batch of boys. The older girl is tortured by the boys, upon the encouragement of the mother. I'm not certain if I have the stomach to read the book, the movie will suffice for now.:(
 
I had no clue why it was an experience that kept your heart beating after the last credits until I realized you were not talking about this movie:

I had no idea this had been made into a movie.. I read the book... The book is pretty brutal... When was the film made??
 
It came out this year, and pretty much went straight to dvd. There was another movie that was made, based on the same crime, called An American Crime, but it hasn't been released yet. It stars Juno's Ellen Page. It's been in release limbo for over a year I think.
 
Watched it last nite. I had my reservations since it pretty much went straight to dvd but wow, is it gutwrenching, and the movie doesn't shy away from the most horrific parts of Meg's torture. There was some stuff left out but the worst things that were done are showed. The movie did leave off what happened to Ruth's kids afterwards though. The woman who played Ruth was amazing. This movie is so dark, it makes me wonder if the child actors comprehended what was going on, because there are some scenes where they're clearly in the shot when horrible things are going on.

Were you walking around stunned afterwards and in a state of pure shock? I agree, the lady who played the cruel aunt did an awesome job. As for the kids, perhaps they were imaged in during the torch scene. As for when they had Meg strung up in the basement, that would've been a scene where the actors were "there" in the flesh. Perhaps the directors and the family of each child actor meets and determines if their kid is up to it, I don't know.
 
I did see this a while ago, and i'd say it went a bit overboard on the violence for pure shock value while the story itself kinda suffered for it. The story is centered around the conflicted boy, but the character didnt really seem complete. In the opening scene for instance he is presented as practically a saint, saving a man after a hit and run (why was that scene even in the movie?). And then in the rest of the movie he is conflicted between the friendship to the cruel aunt and her boys, and his feelings toward the girls. But while this is central to the movie its not really explored in my opinion. Instead its more focused on the shock value of the torture. So i'd definetly not watch this again and i dont think i will recommend anyone to see it.

The best part of the movie was the woman playing the cruel aunt. She did a very good job.

From what i hear "An american crime" is supposed to be closer to the true story, but after this i dont feel like watching another movie about this story.
 
I read the book a few years back and honestly, I don't feel any desire to see the movie and I never touched a Jack Ketchum novel again. Sicko.
 
I just watched it last night, found it pretty fucked up but also got bored of it. It ended up being the same thing over and over. Her tortured and the boy trying to help her in a basement. Or the mom giving some crazy speech. After awhile i felt it was just boring, not shocking, or powerful or anything.
