The rule of four: an interpretation of the ending

I recently read the book «The rule of four» and enjoyd it. Nevertheless the ending was of the kind one has to interpret and I wonder: How do you interpret the ending? I mean: Do you think Paul Harris survived? Has he moved to Italy?

I recently read Rule Of Four and I really didn't think to much of the ending...it seemed kind of jumbled. Anyway, yes I do think Paul survived. The whole package- painting and everything made me think of Paul. Paul always likened himself to Joseph. I think it was Paul's way of saying that he had found something and wanted or needed Tom's help. And if not, then who is the "he" that Tom refers to when he reads the number off of the tube?
