Things you let your pet get away with

When I first got my dog about 6 years ago, the rule was no going upstairs to the bedrooms and no getting on the furniture. A few years ago he decided it was okay to go on one of the couches if no one else was home. (I learned from a dog trainer that we implicitly told him this was okay by coming home and telling him to get off the couch.)

Lately he's decided that it's really okay to go on that couch if I'm upstairs working. He knows how to push the boundaries. Hmmmm. Aren't pets tricky?

What liberties are your little schnooks taking?

We love our cats. They try to get away with stuff, but we always keep full water bottles withing reach.

I have three rats, and they will chew *anything* that comes near them. Recently I hung one of my sweaters near their cage, and it was torn to shreds! Luckily it was an old one I'd been saving to make them a new hammock. How do you scold a rat, though? Besides, it's our own fault for putting it near their cage.

Are you sure it's a dog and not a cat?

Holy, moly that's a big dog  bigger than me. I spoil my pets, cats get on all the couches and chairs, no tables, counters or shelfs though I will spray them for that. I wasn't a good puppy person, Oh the horror, there were puppy puddles eveywhere before I could steam up on there was another :(
Small animals get lots of out of cage playing time but they are limited to there own rooms, mainly due to the cats.

My arms are full of bruises because every time the puppy wants something, he grabs one of my arms and drags me to the place. When he wants to sit in a particular places he pushes people out if there is not enough room. This is a familiar thing. Years ago we had a kitten who used to ran upstairs, jumped on my daughter's cot and push her head off the pillow. The puppy has also chewed half of the plants in the garden, any toys we buy for him, the corners of all the cushions, trainers, newspapers, etc.

I have one cat now. Recently I had two, but one of them was old and died. The old cat was very housetrained, in the sense that I could call her and she would come, and if I said NO then she knew she wasnt allowed to do whatever she was doing or I could say OUT and she left the room.
The other cat I got when she was a kitten and she has picked up a bit from the old cat, before she died. I can also call out her name and she will react, and she does react to the words NO, OUT or DOWN if she has climed to the top shelf. She is not as clever as the old one, as I can say NO , then 3 minuttes later she willl do the same thing. She is really the baby of the family and I guess I treat her like that, knowing she will never get as wise as the old cat. She does however talk! Something which the old never really did. The young one, can come to me, telling me a long story as if I understand exactly what she is saying. She is not just miau-ing, she actually makes different sounds and variates her tone etc.
One thing which is a big NO-NO in my house for the cat, is the kitchen table. I do NOT want any cats on my kitchen table, and she knows and respect that.
She is allowed to sleep in the bed as she really feels lonely if she doesnt. At night when everyone is going to bed, then she can walk around sometimes crying out her loneliness, like she is saying; "where is everyone?" and I have to call her name and make sure she gets into bed. :p Just like a little child!

I think pets, especially dogs and cats, are small personalities and can be both wonderfull and awfully annoying at the same time.

haha. My dog chewed the piano. Baad dog.

My dog pretty much runs our household. She supervises everything we do and lets us know when we aren't working hard enough or paying her enough attention.

Her latest "bad thing" is to sit on the floor and growl/cry/talk until someone gets down on the floor with her. Then, she completely ignores you. If you get back on the couch she starts over. She just wants someone else to be on the floor when she feels like being on the floor. Her favorite bad thing is to sit on the back of the loveseat/couch and bark out the windows at neighbors and joggers.

My cats are extremely spoiled - they are allowed to go pretty much anywhere and are always having attention lavished on them. They're also pretty smart too. One of my cats is able to open the fridge and the other the oven and the cupboard, so food isn't really safe anywhere we put it. They also love potato chips, and so if you're eating chips they will wait until you take one out of the bag and then scratch your hand so you drop it. Cue cat taking and eating chip.

I wish we had a dog, though. Dogs are so much cooler

Ok, I don't have any animals as pets, but I do have 5 nephews in total, do they count?

they display much animal like behaviour - for example- traipsing mud onto my newly cleaned floors, the one year old has completely chewed off my winnie the pooh bears nose, He also attempts to climb onto my kitchen table even though he knows he's not supposed to.

But if a moth or a fly should come into view then they all run screaming to me - even the soon to be 15 year old whose going through an Eminem phase. All they have to do is pull those dimply smiles and they get away with anything

that sounds very familiar :)

Our dog used to get on the sofa while everyone was at work or out the house, we used to come home and see her jump off the chair ;) My dog also used to go upstaires on my parents bed while everyone was at work or out the house, we used to see her come running down the staires while we came home. One day everyone was out working so my dog went into my parents room and went on the bed. I had to get something from my parents room and saw the dog on my parents bed. She was a little shocked to see me in the house as all she did was look at me then jump off the bed with her tail between her legs ;)
