Tom Sawyer in Hell by Peter Black

Did you ever have a moment when you thought this book could be interesting and fresh, maybe even relevant? I had that thought and then it was crushed by this book. I regretted spending the 99 cents for downloading it to my Kindle. I'm so frustrated that it is worth my time posting a comment on how bad it is.

The author is trying to justify his insane, erratic, and contradicting behavior through these unstructured stories. Although he suggests the book is fiction, but based on real life events, I find it very childish and written very poorly. After reluctantly reading all of it and hoping to find something to justify the 99 cents, I have come to the conclusion that Peter Black is insane. The people who published the book are insane!!! I guess any Tom, Dick, Harry, or Peter, can write anything and some fool like me will waste 99 cents on it. Shame on me.

Sorry to rant...

No need to be sorry. I love your direct reaction to the book and your reasons for not liking it.

Just for the heck of it, I decided to see how it fared among readers on Amazon, and was astounded to see a large majority of 5 star reader reviews.

I'll go along with your thoughts, but I was wondering what you might think of how people there seem to be reading a totally different book.

Not arguing, just asking, in case you have some thoughts.

Discussion is what we are about, so Welcome! :flowers:

Peder, I noticed that the book is published by BookSurge Publishing and it is available as a 99 cent Kindle download and those two data points lead the cynic in me to suggest that the number of 5-star reviews come from family and friends who spent the 99 cents to download it and write a 5 star review.

Doh! :banghead6mx:

Sparky, I am just never cynical enough when it comes to the Net.

Looking back at the Amazon page, I see that the author is brave enough to let us read pages from his book. Hate to say that I'm going to look, but probably will. Sometime.

Susan,

You sound a little insane yourself. lol... what exactly did you read in the book that made you so angry? it must be a good book if it made you so emotional. You might not be the intended audience for the book because it has a few hundred fans on facebook. Check it out:

If you regret spending 99 cents, you must be in really bad shape financially...

Sparky,

The first review on Amazon is from a top 10 reviewer. How could that be a friend?

Susan, you should be flattered the author came in to defend his book.

Peter, err, jonnyc, I never said that all the reviews were from family and friends. Besides, he gave you a 4 star review so it doesn't apply to my comment anyway.

Anyhoo, since you're a successfully published author then maybe you can share writing tips for some our aspiring members?

I love it when writers can't take criticism and resort to insulting the people paying them. Sure, it's not on the level of Anne Rice's epic meltdown, but...

I never said I was the author. I am just a big fan of the book. And I got the five star review confused with the four star review. Another Amazon top reviewer recently gave it five stars out of five.
