Seriously, if I went to a bookstore that looked like this, I would never leave.

For your information, Waterstone's is the dominant chain in the UK and I counted three of them there. There's also three Blackwell's, out of the sixty or so stores in the UK. And you'll notice that, at number 27, is that well known independent Borders. ;)

Point conceeded-like the ugly American I typically am, I forget that there are other businesses besides American ones. Who knew?;)

Seriously, I would be a bum and refuse to leave a bookstore that had wall to wall boks like the picture I posted previously. It might be enough to entice me to hide in a British airways wheel well across the pond, in order to find the place.
 
Never heard or visited most of them, aside from Amazon and Newcastle's Blackwells. No, not even Abe Books, I don't think.

I'm going to make it a priority to visit Mr B's Emporium of Reading Delights, though, as I haven't come across it in Bath so far. It looks wonderful!

As for WH Smith travel bookshops - I wonder why that should be included. Airport/train station WH Smith's are usually full of rubbish, in my experience.
 
I'm a little disappointed to see Amazon there when The Book Depository is so much better. Not only does it have the wonderful enticement of Free Shipping Worldwide (therefore pissing on Amazon Prime), but it has regular author and publisher interviews, sends out a monthly newsletter, has an interesting blog, and more.
 
I do enjoy Abe books online, I recieved a book today that I had ordered and bought it 13 dollars cheaper then at my local bookstore.Me happy.

I love that place.

I was pleasantly surprised to see one of the Wigtown bookshops on that list, as I feared small shops in the backwoods that is my country might get overlooked. :p As a book town, the whole place is full of lovely little bookshops like that one where gems are to be found quite easily.
 
I stopped by the #1, Crockatt and Powell, last week. Very nice shop indeed. I'm not sure I'd consider it the best in Britain, but if I lived in London I'd definitely make it a steady haunt. Nice list.
 
I've been to Mr. B's in Bath, it's pretty good. My boyfriend and I liked the atmosphere - warm, personal environment, complimentary coffee and cake too if I remember correctly.
I haven't been to the Toppings in Ely but I have visited the Bath store and was very impressed. They seemed to have literary events going on every week and I think we spent an hour or so browsing.
Heffers in Cambridge is fantastic - absolutely huge selection.
News from Nowhere in Liverpool is also pretty memorable - I'm pleased I've been to a few of these places :)
