V for vendetta

V for Vendeta was ( is ) a great graphic novel by the great Alan Moore. A movie adapatation has been made, directed by the Wachowski brothers.

The plot: Set against the futuristic landscape of totalitarian Britain, V For Vendetta tells the story of a mild-mannered young woman named Evey (Natalie Portman) who is rescued from a life-and-death situation by a masked vigilante known only as “V.” Incomparably charismatic and ferociously skilled in the art of combat and deception, V ignites a revolution when he detonates two London landmarks and takes over the government-controlled airwaves, urging his fellow citizens to rise up against tyranny and oppression. As Evey uncovers the truth about V’s mysterious background, she also discovers the truth about herself – and emerges as his unlikely ally in the culmination of his plot to bring freedom and justice back to a society fraught with cruelty and corruption.

See the trailer here!

How good is that? This is going to rock.

Along with Aeon Flux this is a film I'm really looking forward too. I'm really hoping they keep the grittiness of the graphic novel like they did with Sin City. If it turns out like Tank Girl or Judge Dredd did then I won't be happy.

Natalie looks quite good with a bald head though. Very Alien 3!

It seems to me, from the trailer, that they have kept the grittiness! I'm looking forward to this one. They are making a movie of Aeon Flux? I didn't know! Another one to look forward to!

I liked the graphic novel and I hope that V won't be more politically correct in the movie adaptation rather than the ruthless anarchist he is in the novel.

The trailer is aesthetically impressive but it doesn't look like the film will be a hit. Too exaggerated and it seems like there'll be a whole lot more action than there is in the novel with computer generated vulgarities and more.

Miss Portman isn't one of my favourite actresses either.

Hurrah for anarchy. Perhaps it’ll be good enough to rent at least.

Do any of you Londonites feel there will be a problem with one of the scenes involving an underground train (?) getting blown up. I have heard this is stirring some commotion on the editing room floor / those sponsoring the movie. After the 9/11 attacks in New York, about twenty movies had thier release dates pushed back because some of their scenes might've caused some emotional shitflinging.

I don't see any problem. It's a movie!

It's not endorsing blowing trains up. It has no connections with what happened in London. It's a work of fiction. It's a movie...

That's what I say, Wabbit, but here in the states, they had to remake a scene in Spiderman because it showed a helicopter caught in a web strung between the twin towers of the WTC.

We are pretty sensitive, you know! :D
