The significance of names
Names have power because they identify. That power can be advantageous or detrimental. If you have a reputation of power, then the mention of your name (which identifies you and distinguishes you from others) can cause fear and/or respect and admiration. However, if you lack those qualities, then knowledge of your name can bring power to you, for good or ill, depending on who calls.
Some people quantify power by the number of people who know your name. Others build power through the accumulation of names, either by allying themselves to people of powerful reputation (name-dropping) or defeating names of reputation (sports, games, politics, gunfights, etc.).
The knowing of your name by others can bring you power through wealth, celebrity and character, by recommendation, word-of-mouth advertising, and testimony.
Names are nearly as powerful as ideas, and can support or damage ideas through their association. How we manage them determines how much power we have, will gain or lose, and how the world will see us.
