Your reading routine

So what do you do to prepare to read? In other words, what other items do you have to have around you for the ideal reading environment? I haveto have my coffee with me and I have to read in my blue recliner. Oh yeah, and the kids have to be in bed.;)
 
If I waited for atmospheric conditions to be right before I sat down to read, I'd never get anything read. I've had to learn to read no matter what is going on around me. If I could have things set up just right, I'd have my glass of iced tea or water on the table by my chair and my feet propped up, and the room nice and quiet. The porch is another favorite reading place too. We have some cheapo Adirondack style chairs that make it nicer to sit outside and read... when the dog and cats aren't begging for attention. I used to like to read in the hammock out back, but those critters took my reclined position as an open invitation to shower them with attention-or be slurped by the dog:p
 
Usually I can read no matter what's going on around me, but my ideal reading environment consists of quiet with perhaps classical music playing in the background. Or some other instrumentals at least. A glass of tea within reach and a comfortable place to curl up with the book. I'm usually set for a couple hours like that and I like to prop up on a pillow as I'm reading.
 
I usually have to be in a relaxed frame of mind to read and to know what I sort of time I have to read is usually nice, but I know that sometimes one can't count on that. But usually I like to be in an environment that is relaxing and welcoming to me reading (means I like to be outside when I read). I can't be feeling jumpy when I sit down to read, or I am going to be looking for something new to read in a few moments afterwards.
 
I try to read wherever and whenever i can, even if it's for a few minutes.
I read in the car waiting to pick people up, waiting rooms, bus stops, at work, even watching TV in the adverts.

Ideally though, i like to have a cold beer or glass of wine, be in a different room to the rest of the family or in the garden especially early evening as the sun sets but this rarely happens.

Still reading at any time or place is not a problem for me i still enjoy. !
 
i read for a few minutes before going to sleep every night - even if i've been out celebrating and i need to reread those pages the next time i pick the book up. i can read anywhere (bus, mall, etc) but if i have my way, i'm definitely reading in my hammock at the cottage with a cool drink...
 
If I'm not in the mood to write or I'm struggling with a part in writing, I read.

If I'm bored to all hell and too tired to do anything else, I read.

If I'm lucky enough to be reading an exceptional book at the time and want to see what happens next (A Thousand Splendid Suns was the last good one I've had for awhile), I read.

I don't need anything else. Cept maybe clothes. Yes, definitely my clothes, without those on I might just feel a bit awkward.
 
I've been moody and depressed lately, which, for me, means extra helpings of reading. My favourite thing to do is have lots of pillows to snuggle into, a drink, maybe some munchies but nothing that'd get in the way of reading. If I can't sleep, or I have twenty minutes before doing something, then I read, too. I read a lot when I'm sick.
 
All I need is a comfortable place to sit or lie down, and I'm set. :D I do prefer to read in silence though, to avoid distractions.
 
I usually read in bed :) And I must have some music in the background and on the nightstand either coke or tea near.
 
First step: purchase books I want to read.

Second step: buy airplane ticket to somewhere.

Third step: read at airport and then on airplane (provided I don't fall asleep or indulge in too many gin & tonics)

Sadly that's not too far from the truth. It seems that recently the majority of my leisure reading has been on aircraft.
 
What I do (mostly) is read in bed. I listen to white noise via headphones and use a book stand to see the pages clearly.

Sadly I haven't had much time to read lately. Today I tried to catch up but I only did so much. Maybe I should catch a flight and join sparkchaser in his reading routine. :D

Hopefully, sparkchaser gets paid to travel and stay at hotels..seems like a very expensive way to get some reading time;)

travel and reading. these are two of my favorite things :) :)
for me, i have to have something to eat while im reading. wudnt mind a drink or two either.
i like it the most when i get the rocking chair to myself. i can sit on it for hours reading a book.
 
My favorite place to read is the bathtub. As long as you don't drop the books in it's the best place. You can go in there and close the door and be completely alone for an hour or so and with the water running you can't really hear anything else that might be going on in the house.
I find it hard to sit or stand still without reading, so I usually take a book with me everywhere in my purse. I read in the line at the post office, the grocery store, in the drive thru. The only item I try to have with me to read is a bookmark, but usually I forget it and end up dog-earing the pages. It's a horrible habit.
