No, I liked the book. One thing I noticed though - I had to keep reminding myself the story takes place just after Pearl Harbor! I think it could be taking place anytime. I mean, one can't rely on the car age to identify time because of all the hobby car restorers. Now, that's not a distraction, just an observation.
You mentioned the next one will be a little more emphatic regarding time. So I'll be looking forward to the next one.
I'm very excited about Bouchercon next September! My enthusiasm has a friend joining me! So I won't have to be traveling alone. Better yet, I won't be solo on the hotel bill! I could NEVER get my husband to go along for it!

Hey, Mark! I did indeed finish reading BLOOD AND ASHES. And I DID like it! I truly plan to write a review but I'm not very good at it so I have to really work at it and haven't had a chance. But don't give up on me! Mostly I get hung up on the synopsis part! Actually I break out in a cold sweat because I'm reminded of those dadblasted book reports we used to have to write in school!
