    Medically related horror/thriller

If you're looking for medical thriller, you must check out Robin Cook. He's a pioneer of the genre and has more than a dozen books about all things medically related, including a nonfiction-esque "The Year of the Intern" which details what a medical student would expect (in great, daunting...

    Stephen King

How about "The Tommyknockers"? Just picked it up... I've seen mixed reviews of the story, so I thought I'd ask. Definitely a fan of Duma, and that novel saved King for me.

Who is your favourite author, and why?

Dean Koontz and Stephen King are probably my top two currently. (Duma Key saved King for me... and I've since then picked up a couple others, but we'll see how it goes).

    Toni Morrison

Read Beloved for junior year HS and thought it was amazing. Tough symbolism, but great literature.

    Diana Gabaldon

-sigh of relief- Very cool. I just picked up the first, Outlander, after a daily journey to BN and seeing what I guess is the 5th (?) new out in paperback. Now I really look forward to reading it! So, the series is as good as the 9,000,000 pages it'll take to cascade through it? :)

The Dark Half by Stephen King. Anyone read it? Still trying to figure out if I like him or not... very intriguing, but extremely "out there"...

Dan Brown: The Da Vinci Code

I loved the exploration of a religion that Brown gave us in the Da Vinci Code. The fact that he uprooted the "biggest secret" known to man is something that really made the book a fun one to read, regardless of his writing style.

    Dan Brown: Digital Fortress

I have attempted all 4 of his novels, succeeding with only 3. The Da Vinci Code was a great read, same with Angels and Demons, and I actually enjoyed Digital Fortress quite a bit. Deception Point, however, was akin to staring deeply at an abstract painting to find a meaning, only to end up with...

    Books in the news?

I'm pretty sure the huge success of that latest Potter wasn't due to the quality of the book (exactly HOW many were pre-ordered?!), but for the simple fact that, well, it's Harry Potter. Millions have grown up with Harry. As for Da Vinci, if not for the fact that the book challenged the...
