Most hated 'classic' novel you've actually read

Fastest way to declare yourself a philistine: call Dickens or Shakespeare shit. I'll put another vote in for The Great Gatsby.

What the Hell?! Post deletion blows!

It's highly disappointing that threads like that get defended.

    Images in posts are annoying

Since I'm in a bitching mood I figure it's a good time to point out that images in posts are rude. I didn't ask to see the pics. I go to discussion forums to read discussions not look at pics. Now I have to scroll through pics to get to discussions.

What the Hell?! Post deletion blows!

I've had two posts, at least, deleted recently. The two I can confirm were in the stupid thread about the most whackest books.

    The Most Whackest Books

Tolstoy, Faulkner, Steinbeck and Wiesel are nothing to feel guilty about.

    Adolf Hitler: Mein Kampf

Out of curiosity I would like to read it. He was a very intelligent man. He did turn a poor Germany into a power house. Many of his ideas and the ideas of those around him still influence our world today. He was Time magazine's Man of the Year in 1938. Am I defending Hitler? No. Just...

Recommend a good Adventure Book filled with intricate plot that makes you think hard?

Foucault's Pendulum & The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco.

    10,000 Days

Upon a few listens this album is a bore. Worst Tool ever. I have lost interest in the band due to this album.

    Let's see those Desktops

Heh. If this were true you wouldn't be using Windows now would you....? :p I can use a heavier environment because my OS kernel is far more efficient with hardware resources. Now if only I could get a decent first party open-source driver.

Books similar to da vinci code

I can't personally recommend them but Steve Berry's books are apparently very good comparitively.

    In a reading rut?

Reading ruts mirror pyschological ruts for me. March was shitty. The end of April too. Took me six weeks to get through Great Expectations. The rut mostly passed and the passion for reading mostly returned. Since then I've read a decent handful. When you don't feel like doing something...

I bought Hey Nostradamus! to get signed at a Coupland signing and got three free hardcover copies of JPod signed.

    Douglas Coupland

Just got back from a Douglas Coupland industry event in Toronto at the Random House office. He was funny and tremendously gracious. I left with three hardcover copies of JPod signed and he signed the copies of Hey Nostradamus! and Microserfs that I brought. I thanked him for Microserfs...

What browser and screen resolution are you using?

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.8.0.1) Gecko/20060326 Firefox/1.5.0.1 1600x1200 but I never run my browser full screen. No layout issues that were errors, not technical errors anyway. I had to use some extensions to get the site to 'fit' into my browser window. Too many sites...

There's also The Diet Code. And of course the games that have been released for the PS2 and Xbox. Maybe Xbox 360 too. I'm not going to check.

    Vladimir Nabokov

I finished Lolita this morning. Gorgeous prose! So beautiful! I would have finished faster had I not stopped to reread passage after passage. We all know the story so I won't bother summarizing. I haven't gone through this thread yet or the one in Book of the Month. Once I have I will try...

Aquablue the images are nice and all but if everyone starts doing that soon the pages are a collage of images and not fun to look at. You could make a link to the image and still be as 1337. Today I purchased Train Your Brain by Ryuta Kawashima. I don't feel as sharp as I used to. I...
