There were a few scenes of it, but I have no problem with that kind of stuff usually. A few of my friends had trouble with it though and hid behind their hands until it was over. :p It is really well done, really. Not too much either.
As for Oryx and Crake, I'm really enjoying it (and I'm...
*walks in from cinema*
You have to see this film... It was completely and utterly amazing! :D
It is quite graphic at times, but for me it brought out more of the realism in it. Trust me, the effects are fantastic and so is just about everything else. If you can, go see it at a cinema as...
That confused me too.
I have to add one. I discovered Elizabeth Murtzel's memoir Prozac Nation and I really like her writing style, even though it is non-fiction. :)
My boyfriend was going through a little Rubik's Cube phase a couple of months ago and one of his friends joined in too. He ended up being able to solve one in about 2 minutes. He basically memorised the instructions and then was able to figure it out himself from then on.
I don't...
Not to annoy anyone or anything... but I had a nice Valentine's Day with my boyfriend. :D
Here in the UK (or maybe it's just Scotland?) we usually have the week of Valentine's off. I'm not entirely sure why, but two of the days (yesterday and today in this case) are usually teacher...
I hate mistakes and usually write them down if I find them. One in particular being a sentence starting with "vShe" in The Historian. I couldn't believe that was missed in a spell-check or proof read. It started a very obvious paragraph for goodness sake!
What also annoys me is inconsistency...
On the subject of tea...
Did you know that tea has a substance called tannin in it which prevents the proper absoption of iron? This is one reason why elderly people often don't get enough iron.
Only when I'm reading something boring (such as Thomas Hardy! grrrr!) or I'm too busy. When I went on holiday I was so exhausted from walking about all day that I just couldn't read before sleeping at night.
Exactly what I do. I'm terrible for forgetting my homework and I've become quite good at making small excuses quickly and promising it for the next day/lesson. :p
Somehow I missed this topic before...
How about Lesser Known Novels? Works of fiction that not many people seem to have heard of but the nominating party loves?
And... Weirdest Books? Books that just seem weird but great.
I really like the idea of doing the Can't Win 'Em All one too. :)
I don't watch much sci-fi/fantasy tv, but from what I do watch (other than kids shows) I would have to rank Charmed, Xena, Red Dwarf, and The 10th Kingdom in my favourites. Plus I think Lost deserves a mention too as it is addictive. :p
For the other five in my list I would have to say...
LibraryThing is ok... but once you get past 200 you have to pay. I much prefer Listal because I can keep track of not only all my books, but all my music, films, dvds, and games too. :)
Here's today's haul (all second hand unless stated otherwise):
Startling Moon - Liu Hong (£2.99 new)
Hey Nostradamus! - Douglas Coupland (£0.50 hardback)
Royal Assassin - Robin Hobb (£0.30, this was slightly random as I haven't read the first in the series or had the urge to buy it...
IE does have tabs now. You people need IE 7.0 :p
I only use IE, but I have FireFox on my computer too. I used to have to use AOL, which was utterly useless. I'm very glas I don't have to put up with it anymore.
