assault on precinct 13 (the new version). it wasn't bad. i'm not usually a big action fan. is the original better?
eulogy was pretty funny, but I've seen better comic funeral films (what? it's a genre).
i agree with you. it's a shame, too, because i so liked his other books. this one just didn't take me anywhere. the characters were too unlikeable. there was nothing to grab on to but clever bits of information. also, how much clever information can one book contain? Palahniuk was trying...
Happy Accidents starring Vincent Donofrio and Marisa Tomei. It was pretty good. Not the cheesy Kate and Leopold kind of love story I was expecting (thank God).
Also, The Safety of Objects with Dermott Mulroney and Glenn Close. It is gracefully intertwined vignettes. The cast was great.
I just ordered The Dog of the Marriage by Hempel.
While I wait for it to be delivered, I think that I will reread Choke. I was just remembering how great it was. The rocks! And the last 6 sentences! (I'm looking at the book right now.)
Uh-oh. I think I'm obsessed.
I read Choke a while back. It was my first Palahniuk.
Thanks for the recommendation. I've heard alot about Amy Hempel just lately, so I think she's going to be my next read.
Blackden by Duncan Mclean.
The first few pages were rough for me because he is a Scottish author and I wasn't used to the lingo, but I quickly caught on. I'm enjoying it now.
Dog of the Marriage by Amy Hempel (originally suggested by novella.)- sorry, i had a quote malfunction.
I have heard alot about Amy Hempel and would love to read and discuss this one.
I just went on a Chuck Palahniuk binge.
I read 4 of his books in three days. (I'm not yet back to normal.)
Diary, Invisible Monsters, Lullaby, and Survivor.
Does anyone know how to come down from this?
That's awesome!
I have one. I get creeped out by "Beloved" by Toni Morrison. The whole thing makes me feel like I've been stuck in a root cellar for weeks with only my own sweat to drink.
:o Why do I instantly feel the need to apologize?
This is one of my all time favorite books! I went on the journey and felt the danger and anguish. The first time I read it, I had incredibly vivid dreams about the territories. I wanted so badly for the story to continue once it was done that I would imagine possible scenarios. I have to...
i just started Ceremony by Leslie Marmon Silko. I am entranced in the writing. Every sentence has incredible meaning. I don't even know how to begin to inerpret it. It's too powerful to separate into parts, to dig my fingers into it and mash the juicy pulp. Is it doing an injustice to the...
