    classic coming of age

I'm in the mood to read a great coming of age story. I recently watched Anywhere but Here with Susan Sarandon and Natalie Portman and I loved the description of Anne's plight. I think it was done extraordinarily well. I want to read something along those lines and as well done as that. I...

    one short storm

“One Short Storm” Jamie stood on the old bench feeling the wind ravage her. Her long brown hair danced in it. The night was young, but the sky was dark for the moon had abandoned them. She raised her arms wide over her head. The wind lashed and caressed her at the same time. It came...

    Currently Reading

just finished reading King's Insomnia after what seemed like an eternity. i couldn't get into it. Now i'm starting "Blackden" by Duncan McLean. He's a Scottish writer (i think.?)and the blurb compares him to Holden Caulfield. Seems interesting. Anyone read his work?

    three girls

Three girls walk beneath the yellow glow of the street lamp. To their left, docked cabin boats bob slightly as the summer wind rushes along the surface of the water. The sound of dry brittle ropes tugging on splintering posts is reassuring to the girls. The erratic swishing as the uplifted bows...

Especially for Mr. Wabbit (though others may read)

i think you should visit n.y. it's a different place to everyone. i live in new york (Long Island), just 40 miles away from manhattan. After September 11th, the police in the city were more strict and somber, but, i think that can be understood. Of course there will be rude people from place...

    Scariest Book Ever?

Me too! i love Henry James. That particular story was eerie because it wasn't quick paced and the ghosts or whatever they were, hallucinations?, were not the main theme of the story. it was told like a truly terrifying campfire ghost tale. i know what you mean about the window thing...

    Fragments v. 2.0

i LOVE Great Expectations! :) Let me know how you like it. Pip is one of my favorite characters of all time. i guess i really like most of Dickens' main characters, they are perfectly flawed.

What do you do with a book you've read?

The same thing happened to me with several books i had sold out of necessity. I haven't gotten rid of any since, except recently i sent someone a book that i listed at bookcrossing. it's okay though, it was one of those that were so bad that i couldn't even finish it.

    Fragments v. 2.0

joel gazed down on the jumbled green, trying to picture the music room and dancers ("Angela Lee played the harp," Miss Amy was saying, "and Mr. Casey the piano, and Jesus Fever, though he'd never studied, the violin, and Randolph the Elder sang; had the finest male voice in the state, everyone...

    Best short story

excellent! i love hemingway, but i could never finish "Old Man..." Anyway, i definitely recommend "The Anatomy of Desire" by John L'Heureux. It's less than 7 pages, but it's worthy of a quote from Piedro. Please also try "Dinner Time" by Russell Edson, "A Very Short Story" by Ernest...

    Morvern Callar

i just watched the movie and enjoyed it. i am going to order the book. i expect it to be better than the movie, though i really have nothing to go on except that i don't think the film completed what it attempted to portray. if you read it before me, let me know what you think. :)

Stephen King: Wolves Of The Calla

i finished wolves of the calla and am 40 pages away from the end of song of susannah. i enjoyed them. it had been some time since i read the rest of the dark tower series, but even so, the intro brought it all back. However, i think you could start wolves and not be lost. all the truly...
