A three hundred page book can be read in 2-4 hours for me. Though lately, between work and family, it's taking me 1-3 weeks to actually get the thing done, which is dissapointing to say the least.
I don't think I like Benton being back at all. I was actually so mad when that happened I put the book down and walked away. I was actually MAD at Cornwell, because it just didn't feel real, and there's NOTHING in the previous books to suggest that he was alive. I hated it.
If I buy a book that's less than 300 pages, I've probably already read it and liked it. I discriminate against short books, I'll admit it. They're over to quick, it's like the last miniature cheesecake out of the box. Really freaking expensive cheesecake.
I tend to head to Chapters when I want to browse, dream and get ideas. Then I go to the small indie and order them from them! I want to support the indie, but they don't have a "oh that looks good" factor that Chapters does with 9 times the shelf space.
I read everything Patricia Cornwell writes because I'm attached to Kay Scarpetta and have a crush on Lucy.
I loved Olivia Joules!
I also read a TON, and i mean a TON of lesbian erotica. Every year for christmas Wifey-Poo gives me Tristian Taoromino's "Best Lesbian Erotica of..." and they go...
hello people! I'm Allyson. I'm from Regina Saskatchewan, I've been reading probably 50-100 books a year since I was 7 years old and I'm 21. I'm a Banker, I have a wonderful wife (we're newlyweds, Go Canada) a chinchilla and I'm currently up way to late for my own good because I am rather...
I've been slugging through Powerbook, my first Winterson, but I think now I might put it down and move onto Lighthousekeeping instead. Thanks so much, the review was great!
this is an OLD topic, but I just felt the need to say; this book CHANGED MY LIFE. I was a Saskatchewan farm girl and this book introduced me into a world I didnt know existed. I think I"ve probably read it 100 times, and think I might go re-read it tomorrow. The movie...hated it. It ruined...
Reading this from the point of view of someone who's loved someone who had a genital surgery at a young age, and knows many people who have transitioned I loved this book. I though Eugenides handling of the subject was spot on, and I loved how deep I felt we got into Cal's mind. I havne't read...
Margaret Atwood, I keep trying and I just can't get into it. Which makes me a decidedly BAD CanLit freak. As a person I find her pretentious and snobbish, she rather reminds me of Adrienne Clarkson. Her writing, to me, feels the same way. It's become something of a goal of mine to make it...
I borrowed the first one from a roomy when I was working in the Rockies about 18 months ago. Then I bought the 2nd one and she read it. They're cute, quick reads, though, maybe because I AM a banker, I really want to smack Becky every five pages or so. Which actually annoys me a little bit...
I loved this book intensely. I wish that I had read it before Lucky though, as Lucky had SUCH a profound impact on me, I kept thinking back to it while reading TLB. It was beautiful and I disagree, the sex scenes were integral to the story and to Susie's being able to grow up and move on...
I borrowed this from my Sister in Law one day when I was bored, and I actually really enjoyed it. It really let me lose myself in it, and it was funny, and suprisingly well written. Not my usual kind of book, though I did love the Devil Wears Prada too!
I agree, I wanted to pull her out and...
I just started The Powerbook by Jeanette Winterson tonight. However, it's trapped in the bedroom currently, so once I get tired of the internet I might pick up one of the two other Winterson novels I have checked out currently, Art and Lies or Lighthousekeeping.
