Sophia Kinsella

Has anyone read the Confessions of a Shopaholic series? I have read Sophia Kinsella's new book (The Undomestic Godess) and thought it was pretty good and was wondering what people thought of the Shopaholic books.

I've read a couple of them. I thought they were OK. If you're into chick lit they're probably perfect. I read the two or three I had been given and didn't feel the need to continue with the series. I thought the main character (can't remember her name) was really aggrivating to be quite honest. I just wanted to jump into the book and slap her.

I haven't read The Undomestic Goddess so can't compare but if you are looking for an easy read they are fine. I have read the first three in the Shopaholic series (The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic, Shopaholic Abroad and Shopaholic Ties the Knot) I guess it depends on what you are looking for - I use them as a beach read, or on the plane - nice and simple reads. They are not something I would rush out and buy but will probably get the fourth at some point (though I agree with Mehastings - the main character is rather annoying). Have you read Can you keep a Secret? It is her other novel and isn't too bad :)

I'm a big chic lit fan, but I guess talking about sophia Kinsella states that pretty clearly. Yes now that I think about it I already read Can You Keep a Secret? I thought that it was cute so maybe I will pick up the Shopaholics my next trip to the pool. thanks for the reviews!

Me to! I'm currently reading husbands by Adele Parks which is really good! I have just finished Dot Homme by Jane Green which was BRILLIANT. I havent read any Sophie Kinsella but i plan to very soon as i think i will like her work very much! :D

I borrowed the first one from a roomy when I was working in the Rockies about 18 months ago. Then I bought the 2nd one and she read it. They're cute, quick reads, though, maybe because I AM a banker, I really want to smack Becky every five pages or so. Which actually annoys me a little bit, she just seems a little TOO exagerated.

I really like them. Okay, they're a bit samey, but they're still good fun, and a lovely easy read.

I haven't read Undomestic Goddess yet, as I like to read paperbacks - can't get comfy in bed with a hardback!

I read on IMDB.com ages ago that Can You Keep A Secret? is going to be made into a film, but it said for a long time that Kate Hudson (I think) was going to play Becky, but now she's been removed.

That is exciting! I think that it would be a good movie, but I would wonder how they would do the airplane scene to make it look like she had been spilling out all her secrets then... Kate Hudson is normally good in chic flicks so it is a bit disappointing that she won't be in it.

I've read Confessions Of A Shopaholic, and didn't really find the need to read anymore. I too wanted to jump in and smack Becky every few pages!

finally read the books. and while I hated Becky for half of it, by the time I finished I loved it like as much as any other chic lit book Sophia has written.

I felt the exact same way. The main character learns her lesson about running up credit card bills in the first book, then does the exact same thing in the second book! Plus she is a complete moron at times. I was reading a few pages of the second book and wondered how this woman ever passed Junior High School.

Does anyone else like this author? Ive been reading a lot of her this year and are really growing to appreciate her style. So far I have read Can You Keep a Secret?, and the first three Shopaholic books. I was also suprised to see a book in Target called Cocktails for Three by Madeline Wickham, and was really excited to learn that it is Sophies real name, and instead of only having two more books to go, there were quite a few more.

I realize I am bringing up a topic that was visited here in October, I would just really like to see if there are any other Kinsella fans out there.

Sophie Kinsella's books are about the only chick-lit books I really enjoyed, especially 'Can you keep a secret'. I also liked the shopaholic series. Tell me what the Madeline Wickham books are like when you read them!

the undomestic goddess

I have read all the books by sophie kinselle and i just found the wonderful....i wud recommend her books to all the readers who like to read books.....:)

Sophie Kinsella vs Madeline Wickham

I loved all the books I've read written by Sophie Kinsella; I found out that she also wrote under her real name Madeline Wickham...has anyone read these? Are they written with the same quick witty style?

I loved all her books too! Tell me what you think of her writings under Wickham! I order Gatecrashers today on line, can't find her old books in the stores! Hope her style is the same:p!

I've read all the Sophie Kinsella books. I think Undomestic Goddess was my favourite.

I've only read one Madeleine Wickham - Swimming Pool Sunday. It was quite good - I thought it was less 'fluffy' that her Kinsella books.

If you like the Shopaholic books, you might enjoy Save Karyn by Karyn Bosnak. Karyn was a real-life Becky Bloomwood!

Karyn Bosnak has a new one coming out soon called 20 Times a Lady.

FUNNY! FUNNY! Book! All single women will relate!
