I have two piercings in each ear, a tongue ring, and 5 tattoos. I used to have my nose and belly button pierced but because I couldn't change them out, I had to let the holes close up (long story). I do plan on getting my nose re-pierced.
I got my first tattoo when I was barely 18. I don't...
1) One Book that made you read it More Than Once: Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk
2) One book you would want on a desert island: a book on how to survive on a desert island, lol
3) One book that made you laugh: eat pray love by Elizabeth Gilbert
4) One book that made you cry...
I don't remember the name or the author (of course, cause otherwise I wouldn't need help, right? lol) but I remember the story.
It's about an african american woman who was kind of an outcast in her town because she was light skinned. She ends up marrying an older rich man, who abuses her (I...
"The Perks of Being A Wallflower" has often been compared to it. Before anyone freaks out over that - I don't agree. It gets a lot of flack because of that and because it was an MTV book and whatnot, but in my opinion it is a good book. And I recommend it to anyone and everyone. :flowers:
That's a great one, too. I can't say that I dislike any poetry of Dorothy Parker, honestly. lol
Not So Deep As A Well
Oh, life is a glorious cycle of song,
A medley of extemporanea;
And love is a thing that can never go wrong;
And I am Marie of Romania.
"On the afternoon of October 12, 1990, my twin brother Thomas entered the Three Rivers, Connecticut Public Library, retreated to one of the rear study carrels, and prayed to God the sacrifice he was about to commit would be deemed acceptable."
I Know This Much Is True by Wally Lamb
It has a slow beginning and a somewhat unsatisfying ending, but overall I really enjoyed it. However, I do agree that it may have been overhyped a bit.
"Richard Cory" is the first to come to my mind too, as far as classical lit goes. As for modern, there is a poem in the book "The Perks of Being A Wallflower" by Stephan Chbosky.
I see that you are reading Dorthy Parker. I love Dorothy Parker. My favorite by her is Interior.
Her mind lives in a quiet room,
A narrow room, and tall,
With pretty lamps to quench the gloom
And mottoes on the wall.
There all the things are waxen neat,
And set in decorous lines,
And...
Hmmm... My #1 favorite? That's a hard one. Gerald's Game really stuck in my mind, if you know what I mean. I also really enjoyed The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, Desperation, The Graveyard Shift and The Tommyknockers.
Okay, The Tommyknockers might win. Even though it has been FOREVER since I...
 Indeed. I usually make it a habit not to stalk people, but there are exceptions to every rule! (j/k)
Thank you everyone for your warm welcome. :D
Here's 2 more of my favorites.
Insomnia
by Elizabeth Bishop
The moon in the bureau mirror
looks out a million miles
(and perhaps with pride, at herself,
but she never, never smiles)
far and away beyond sleep, or
perhaps she's a daytime sleeper.
By the Universe deserted,
she'd...
What lips my lips have kissed, and where, and why,
I have forgotten, and what arms have lain
Under my head till morning; but the rain
Is full of ghosts tonight, that tap and sigh
Upon the glass and listen for reply,
And in my heart there stirs a quiet pain
For...
I don't think I have one ultimate favorite, but one of my all time favorites is "Patterns" by Amy Lowell. I usually prefer shorter poems, but this and "If" by Rudyard Kipling are exceptions.
I walk down the garden paths,
And all the daffodils
Are blowing, and the bright blue squills.
I...
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Edgar Allan Poe, Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, Thomas Harris, Tami Hoag, Charlaine Harris, and a little Mary Higgins Clark.
