From all the replies this sounds pretty normal. And for me this also depends upon how "engrossing" the book is...if the book is not that good and my mind is wondering, I find myself setting daily page quotas. I always finish a book, so counting pages allows me to break the story into segments...
I am a digital systems operator for General Electric Aircraft Engines...thats just a fancy way of saying: "I sit in front of a computer."
Most of the time I am logged in to this forum I am at work...of course only when I am not busy testing jet engines!
A well written novel is like a long affair...or a short marriage. I agree with Stewie, it depends upon the story within the novel itself. A well written novel will fill ALL the pages with a story you can not put down.

This may be a stupid question, but I was confused by some of the replies.
Aniela – You have summarized perfectly the reason I also appreciate Hemingway’s work. Even though some of his work can be hard to read, a reader needs to acclimate to his prose. What attribute does it take to truly enjoy Hemingway’s work? Some may call it patience, others maturity; but I...
Sounds like you had a very positive and encouraging mother Astrel.
I don’t think ALL writers believe they are genius and few probably were encouraged since they were young. I think many writers did not realize they could write until they accidentally stumbled across their talent.
