I don't think the cause would be First Edition status... I got a First Edition Song of Susannah for £10.
Oddly apt conversation, a character in Wolves of Calla is an obsessed bibliophile willing to pay any amount for rare books, lol.
I'm guessing he's planning to finish the Wheel of Time first, so finally an indicator that the end is indeed in sight people. Congratulations anyone who managed to keep with him the whole. While I've long since dropped off the WoT wagon, I'll propably check this book out whenever its released, I...
The thing that always stikes me about GRRM is the large amount of disagreement there is amongst fans as to their favourite characters. Personnally, I think Sansa is one of the most interesting characters, whereas Jon is just boring. :p
Wow, that is a brilliant list :)

It is true, but I don't think you'll see Pennywise. Father Callahan from Salem's Lot is a major character in the fifth book, and the Crimson King drops in too.
Babel-17 by Samuel Delany is a fantastic read. I'd second Fluffy bunny's reccomendations, in particular the Lord of Light and The Stars My Destination.
For more modern works you could try Altered Carbon by Richard Morgan and Revelation Space by Alastair Reynolds.
I never got round to finishing the second chronicles. I do have the last book, but I'm reluctant to start reading it as my memory of the first two is very hazy. Anyone know somewhere where I could read some summaries?
I have to agree with you about Kushiel's Dart, but I thought the 2nd and 3rd books where much more accomplished. Two of the best books I read last year.
