I participated this last year. My English instructor roped me into helping the students and to take the pledge. We had two and a half hour writing "cram" sessions complete with chips, dip, and soda. I think that fueled a lot of the writing, at least for the students. I did obtain my 50,000...
Welcome emperor! You haven't found Sparta, only a ship of fools.:devillook
Don't know much about horror other than George W. Bush's speeches, Saul Bellow's writing, as well as the Los Angeles Lakers. Sorry, but glad to see you're with us!!:)
I also have only read the original when it came out years ago. I love books about natural resources and how future military battles will be over them. Oil and water are two that stick out in my mind. I love Friedman's books, though I wish he was more of a liberal provocateur instead of a...
This was one FB feed that got my attention. I knew his health had deteriorated considerably months ago. We have a few good threads of his works here, definitely one of the greats.
Gabriel Garciza Marquez passes away; The Wire...
Never heard of the author. I do enjoy reading the National Review for a conservative perspective, even one that at times is snarky. Anne Coulter, Limbaugh, and some others are just plain brass tacks about their positions and that is a huge turn off. I miss the old conservatism of Buckley and...
Sparkchaser continually sending me '80s music that he is nostalgic about. All the while, sitting at home in his denim jacket, trying to grow his mullet.
This book definitely deserved the Pulitzer, can't say enough about it. A rare case where several subplots interwove seamlessly and left you wanting more as they faded in and out of each other. Some great history and personalities to boot.
I'm proud to report that I made my 50,000 goal with five days to spare. My best weekend featured 5,000 words written on a friday night through sunday night. The cat doesn't know who I am any more and we are getting reacquainted, that is about the only drawback. I had a great time during this...
We should all go on strike until Moto agrees to come back. Let's see, what would make a good strike?
..........boycotting of dentists?
..........boycotting of Woody Allen films?
---------boycotting of v8 juice?
Yeah, those things would definitely hit home and hard and require great...
There is something to be said about being old and grumpy. I can't wait to drink coffee all morning in a doughnut shop or coffeehouse, all the while, complaining wistfully about government, taxes, young people, old people, buildings, the air, and just about everything else.
A vote on a forensics theme is DEADlocked. Oh people.
I just don't know if it would be a "lively" conversation
Perhaps there will be "stiff" dialogue at first?
Are we looking for what is "buried" in the book?
:rofl Puns galore, puns galore.
Kindle HD fire in hand, life is good now.
Seriously though, this is more of a tablet than a reader. I don't mind surfing the web, watching the videos, and the like, but this is not a reader. A point of minor quibble I know, but something I find disagreeable.
I am hopeful that amazon outlasts my lifetime as a business. I'm not sure what will happen to the content if they ever went belly up due to derivatives trading or something.
