Funny books are impossible to find or funny books don't like me

Hey! I'm from Michigan also, and a big fan of laughing. Maybe I can help. Humor is tough to nail down. What type of humor do you like? If you want laugh out loud funny, you might not find it in a thriller or fiction novel. You might have to go for a regular old "humor" book. If you have a...

Do You Think Books Turned Into Movies Do It Justice?

Sparky, I'm assuming you never read Mario Puzo?

The Very Under Rated John Hart

Down River So, I just finished Down River by John Hart. Pretty impressive. The story is original with a good, fast moving plot. I definitely had no idea what was coming next, let alone who the killer was. Hart's writing is suspenseful and lyrical without being overdone. I thought that some of...

    RIP Neil Armstrong

Every time I hear Neil Armstrong's name I think of when Sascha Baron Cohen interviewed him on "Da Ali G show" and kept asking him about the tour de france. Sorry.

All the Pretty Horses is one of my all time favorites. I re-read it every couple of years. I can't say I like everything I have read by McCarthy though. If you wanted to try something lighter by McCarthy, "Suttree" Was pretty entertaining, very funny in spots. Sort of like Huckleberry Finn on acid.

    errors in Lee Child book

Reachers drawers Couldn't find a Lee Child author discussion thread, so I figured I'd post this here. I have been reading a few of the Reacher books lately, and had a question.... What does Jack Reacher do for underwear? I mean, he only ever takes a toothbrush with him anywhere he goes. No...

    Upcoming movies?

Like "Final Destination 2?" Yeah, I think it is going to be a suck-fest no matter what they name it.

    Upcoming movies?

Heehee. I was waiting for someone to bring up the Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher thing.... I laughed out loud watching the trailer. Btw they changed the name of the movie to just "Jack Reacher". Anybody who has read any of that series knows that Liam Neeson should have got that part... :whistling:

Creole Belle - James Lee Burke :stars4: More of Dave Robicheaux and Clete Purcel painting the walls with tissue and bone fragments. Plus the usual great prose and almost overly rich, descriptive narrative that you always get with Burke. Fun stuff.

    Fiction Suggestion

I likeditalot. Happy to see they are making it into a movie, but I don't know about Sam Raimi directing..... Would have rather seen Eastwood or maybe even Ben Affleck (he's directed some pretty great Boston based movies)

    Fiction Suggestion

If you want a long, but really great read, try The Given Day by Dennis Lehane. Chronicles the Boston police strike in 1919 and it is an enthralling story full of interesting characters. Just about everything Lehane writes is set in Boston and most of it is pretty good.

Haha. I remember that one. If I ever meet a woman who opens her beer like that I might try to marry her.

    Can books recreate war?

Yeah I sort of agree with Sparkchaser and Polly. It's hard to say.... although I have never been in war (or prison, or at sea, or middle earth for that matter) if the author can communicate the experience well, you sort of do feel like you have been there. A great soldier might not be a good...

    Nelson DeMille: Up Country

I actually read that one right when it came out. I saw it at the library and picked it up. At the time I didn't have any idea he was writing a sequel so it was a real nice surprise. I agree it was really entertaining, not as great as the first one but still a really fun read.
