    inspire a young reader

in a lot of cases one "gets" into reading b/c first others read to them...it might be a bit late to start that process with your cousin. I liked Shipbreaker but it's got some strong language I'm not sure is appropriate for a 10 year old. I always liked the Hardy Boys, but there kind of...

The Stars Shine Bright by Sibella Giorello :stars5: Excellent book. Okay, so it had fragments all over the place, but that can sort of be excused b/c of the first person narration. I thought it was paced very nicely and Raleigh Harmon's a fun character.

    Brand, spanking new!

You're welcome. And good for you. It took me a very long time to learn that skill. Had to be some pretty horrible stuff I slogged through before learning that vital lesson. How many books do you tend to read in a month?

Give it a try. If you don't like it, stop reading. It's a skill I learned a few years ago. :-P

    Everybody's an author now.

Yes, it does seem like everybody's an author these days. Self publishing is great that a lot of works can get out there, but in general the quality control on self published works is kinda sad. But then again even traditionally published books have mistakes in them these days.

    Inquiries of a Young Reader.

There are a whole host of post apocalyptic types books out. Browse amazon.com or something for books like the Hunger Games. The stuff by Rick Riordan is interesting if you already know some of the greek myths. I've only heard the audiotapes so I dunno. Oh, you might like Shipbreaker. That's YA...

    Hurricane Sandy

Had the electricity knocked out for a few days, but back in glorious heat and with access to the internet...so I can't complain too much.

    Brand, spanking new!

I haven't read too many of the types of books you're talking about but The Hiding Place was pretty good. They sort of made me read that when I was in middle school. You might like it though.

I just started reading Sibella Giorello and so far, she's wonderful. Might be a new favorite.

Ha, Shutter Island was a movie I distinctly remember avoiding. Creepy things and all that. I may try it someday. Thanks for the recommendation.

    Howdy

Cover art is interesting. Sometimes I just like to look at them and complain about what bothers me :-)

    New!!

You may want to just look at the requirements on a particular college's website. They usually have the outlines for each major in some sort of course catalog. That would give you a picture of the classes you'd need to take to prep for that. I don't know if librarians are under the English dept...

Wow, you're certainly a whole lot more dedicated to completion than I am. I stick with mysteries, occasional thriller, science fiction....mostly genre stuff come to think of it. Classics are all right, but most of them just don't hold my interest these days. What's your favorite classic?
