Nancy Drew or Hardy Boys ...

Who here has ever read the Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew and thought them boring? It's strange that when I read them as a kid I loved them but now I re-read them and they're just okay. Maybe I'm just jaded.

Do You Think Books Turned Into Movies Do It Justice?

Books to movies adaptations probably get "better" or worse depending on which you took in first. I know that's sort of how it worked with me and LOTR. I loved the movies and then read the books and thought them sort of dry and long and maybe a tad boring. The novelizations of the Star Wars...

    Hello! newbie here

Science fiction and fantasy sort of go hand in hand in a lot of places, so I'm surprised that you avoid science fiction. Perhaps the sci fi you've been exposed to is the wrong sort. See, I love sci fi, but I'm a fan of "soft" sci fi where it's more about the characters not the weird locales (er...

Betrayal of Trust by J.A. Jance. Typical fare for the series, though this is only the third one I've listened to. Narrator does a good job with it. 4/5 stars.

Tess Gerritsen: Rizzoli & Isles Series

I like the show, never read this book, but I listened to several of the later ones. Gotta say, bigger fan of the TV show based on this than the books, but they were good in their own right.

Funny books are impossible to find or funny books don't like me

I don't know about books set in FL, but The Spellmans by Lisa Lutz are pretty funny books. The characters are charming in a crazy sort of way....or crazy in a charming sort of way I guess. I think there are some nonfiction books you might have better luck with.

    Brandon Sanderson

I liked that Mistborn was relatively short :-P I think the audiobook for Way of Kings was two separate books of 30 CDs or something crazy like that.

    Can kids read too much?

Everything in moderation. All things could be done too much, but there are worse vices out there than too much reading.

Why Do We Love to Read?

I read b/c it's fun. You get to use your imagination to bring the characters to life within your mind. Sometimes you can learn things about life by how the story pans out, realistic or not.
