    Stephen King: The Stand

I loved The Stand. It was recommended to me by a guy that I used to work with, because it was his favorite book. I started reading it and just could not stop. I really loved that it wasn't a typical Stephen King, in that it wasn't crazy scary like IT.

    Lord Of The Rings dilemma

Is it wrong that I agree?? I finished Fellowship, but absolutely could not make it through Two Towers. Could not. After repeated attempts. So, I did what I never never do, and gave up and watched the movies. Which, by the way, were fantastic! Don't know if they were fantastic because of...

    John Grisham

I loved A Painted House! What a great story. My other favorites are Rainmaker and The Client. I think I've read them each 3 times, before they got lost in transition between college and home.

    Charlaine Harris

Just a note - I searched every page before I started this thread, because I didn't want to make a duplicate. I'm surprised that Mrs. Harris doesn't have her own thread here in the Author Discussion section. If you've not seen the Tru Blood series on HBO, or read the Sookie Stackhouse...

    Jane Austen

I've finished Sense & Sensibility, which I loved. I bought the collected works of Jane Austen a few months back, and have been slowly working my way through them all. So far so good.

    Dan Brown

I have a theory about Dan Brown's work, and tell me if you agree. It has to do with Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code. I totally believe that whichever you read first, is your favorite, and that you will think the follow-up (whichever that may be) will pale in comparison. I read Angels...

    C.S. Lewis

The only work I've read from C.S. Lewis is The Chronicles of Narnia, but it took me about five tries to complete the whole series. I enjoyed The Magician's Nephew as well as The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, but I found it hard to get into the other books. Once I've finished them all...

    J.K. Rowling

Oh no! Non-Potter-lovers! Can it be so? Maybe I just live in a fantasy world, but I love J.K. Rowling and the Harry Potter saga. I got addicted to Harry when I was 17 and my little sister (7 at the time) started reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I've been an addict ever since.

    Gaston Leroux

I plan on re-reading POTO as soon as I whittle down my bedside stack of unread books. I read it once a few years ago, and I finished it in a day. Because I was either that hooked, or that bored, so I'd like to go back and make sure I didn't miss anything. My impression of the first reading...

    V.C. Andrews

I think my mom gave me Flowers in the Attic when I was 13 or 14, and I have since read that entire series, as well as a smaller series she wrote about Runaways, one of which was named Brooke, thus the reason my mom bought that one for me too. I found that I've kind of grown out of her writing...

    Stephenie Meyer

I love the story of Twilight, but not the writing. I feel like Meyer's writing is simple and easy to follow, which I don't mind, however, I do like a bit more of a challenge when reading. I am a "fanpire" though, and love my Edward Cullen, just like 98.8% of the rest of the female population...

    James Patterson

I'm not a huge fan of James Patterson. Though, Kiss The Girls is by far my favorite book that he's written. I bought the book Cross, but I didn't finish it, and gave it to a co-worker because she was such a huge fan.

    Stephen King

He's not my absolute favorite author, but I'd say Top 10. My personal favorites of his are Carrie, The Stand, and Needful Things. When my uncle passed away, I inherited his Stephen King collection of mostly 1st Edition hardcover books. They stay on my shelf, and no one touches them. If I...

    Laugh Out Loud Funny

Any book by Charlaine Harris can make me laugh out loud. She has such a charming Southern wit...I love it!

    Between Books

I normally don't take a break, because I keep a backlog of unread books on my night stand. If a book is particularly challenging, or I feel like I need to let the story sink in, I might take a day or two off. But, that's highly unlikely.

Do you read on public transport?

Just wanted y'all to know that I completely outdid myself this morning...I was stuck at a red light for what seemed like hours (in reality it was probably 10 minutes), so I read. At a stoplight. The guy next to me couldn't believe it. He kept staring. I wanted to holler at him, "Hey buddy...

    Larry McMurtry

I've read a few of his other books, and my husband is currently reading: The Colonel and Little Missie: Buffalo Bill, Annie Oakley, and the Beginnings of Superstardom in America, which I'm very much looking forward to reading once he's finished. I do love his style, and I will hopefully...

    Re-reading books

I am a chronic re-reader! It's terrible. I've read my favorite book, Lonesome Dove, no less than 17 times. Not kidding. I agree with Pontalba...it's like finding an old friend and catching up.

    Need a new VAMPIRE book

I highly recommend the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris. It's the book series that the HBO series True Blood is based off of. There are 8 books so far, with number 9 coming out in May, and number 10 in the works. Mrs. Harris has a great sense of humor, and uses Southern mannerisms...
